Female bassists and your thoughts...

I was in a metal cover band with a female guitarist who was a phenomenally good player but also had pro gear, a great attitude, and a fantastic stage presence.

We did well as a band until we had to replace the other guitarist and the new guy was making problems for her. We eventually replaced him but then lost our drummer. His replacement treated her like crap and also constantly hit on her when she made it clear she wasn't interested.

Even after we got yet another drummer, we often had fans harassing her after gigs until she finally got sick of it and quit.

Just terrible what she went through that no guy has to deal with.

I just came across this video by accident and I have 2 questions and a statement.

1. Why do you think she has close to 3 million hits?
2. If I recorded the same cover, do you think I would get 3 million hits?

I think there are some distinct advantages to being a female bassist.

1. She's pretty and has a pretty bass and pretty amp. YouTube loves that and probably someone is pushing this video into people's suggestions.
2. Maybe, but probably not. Do you have any YT influencers who will put your vids into people's suggestions?

I think there are distinct advantages to being pretty on YouTube. Maybe a pretty guy with pretty bass and pretty amp would also get a bunch of hits? Maybe if he gamed the YT system?

Look at your pic for the video of "Short Scale Stingray." Accurate, but not as pretty. I watched it, liked it and commented. Hope you're still having fun with that bass, and it would be nice to have a good review vid. But it's clearly not a video that you intended to get 3 million hits with.

And I know a number of women who have told me that they are happy watching a pretty woman on YT, so just because a majority of bass players are guys only informs us so much. For that matter, some guys who are into guys have told me that they're fine watching a pretty girl on YT. So maybe sexual attraction is only one component of why she has so many hits?

On YT, pretty wins.

Now, about women playing bass: I'm in favor of anyone playing any instrument in any style of music that they like.

Yep, that totally sucks. No one should have to go through that. Related, a guitar player I know in a bluegrass band was telling me about a woman at the bar they played recently who kept grabbing his butt and hitting on him all night. Jerks are jerks, no matter the gender.

My thoughts which I omitted when I posted the video is how remarkable that this young lady is playing that song with a double thumbing technique. And makes it swing.
