Female bassists and your thoughts...

This thread goes off the rails sometimes :)
I dont think bass players plunking around on their keyboards will solve all the worlds gender problems but Hey that's me.
I feel like internet posts are like peeing in a pair of dark slacks -you get a warm feeling but noone really notices. Later you're just alone wet and smelly. (well maybe not everyone) :)

Is it OK that I don't like Tal's playing? I don't want her in my band, that's for sure. Nothing to do with gender, I think bass solos and overplaying kind of make you a "bad" bassist. I guess I'll just wait for the lightning bolt to strike me now.
I like the point of Adam Neely about bass solos. I think, you're right, but in some styles or individual cases, soloing and notes diarrhea is pretty suitable. Wooten, King, etc. Technical death, also.
I'm also don't like Tal's style))

She plays with a guy who's about a million years old leading the band. Sometimes, he probably needs a break to catch some breath. She provides a distraction and some time fill. It's probably in her contract.

As an experiment, someone should post the exact same audio clip of a bass solo on you tube with near identical titles, but different static photos. One with a good looking guy, one with a good looking girl.
"Amazing guy plays bass solo! Must see!"
"Amazing girl plays bass solo! Must see!"
I'm pretty sure which one would get more hits. I'd guess bass is a largely untapped market of opportunities for a good looking girl.

Yep! Glenn Fricker has a video about this) That's because most of people, who interested in bass playing is men)
This is such a usual things, no reason for men to complain, no reason for women to complain, all is great and the world is fine, even if it's unfair sometimes, I don't give a dick)

As a female bassist myself, I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks about us generally.
I don't see any female musicians in bands of my chosen genre (metal, metalcore, deathcore etc...) which sucks but also gives me something to strive towards.
I've had rejections from bands because "a girl in the band just wouldn't look right" which is a fair point I suppose, but still grinds my gears.

You're a bassist.
Don't let others color your aspirations.
Any band that has a problem with your gender is not worth your consideration.
In recent years, women bassists are among the best in the field. (Tal Wilkenfeld, Esperanze Spalding, etc.).
I bet Suzi Quatro got the same story at times and it didn't hold her back.

I just came across this video by accident and I have 2 questions and a statement.

1. Why do you think she has close to 3 million hits?

2. If I recorded the same cover, do you think I would get 3 million hits?

I think there are some distinct advantages to being a female bassist.

:)

That's all.

ITS The Mark bass Amp ! Joe you gotta Youtube it with a mark bass man -lets those hits just roll in! ;)
