Fender 2018 MIM Player Series

How can we go from so many raving reviews from people all over this thread, to a few « the fret job sucks » replies over the past couple of days?
You guys must have been unlucky, second Player for me and the fret job is absolutely fine!
No problem with my Player either. When I received it from Sweetwater, took it to my trusted luthier for a setup and he commented on how well the fret job was and wouldn't need any attention. Mass production will result in some "lemons" - and I agree that should be very minimal for the price point - but let it be known, there are some "peaches" out there with necks like butta! :smug:

There’s not a thing wrong with my Buttercream Player Jazz. It’s strung up with DR Black Beauties and is my rounds Jazz.

I just got finished practicing with it.

I was working with my pedalboard and playing “Fell on Black Days.”

I really, really like my Player Jazz.

Hi guys! I'll trade my American P and I'm going to buy a brand new buttercream JB and tidepool P with maple necks. I've played them both in my local music store today, and these instruments were amazing! Maybe I'm silly, but I don't really care about the Made in USA writing on the headstock anymore. Have you done something similar before?

I've sold a couple of basses to justify a new player series P in buttercream. if you're not using it, lose it.

My beautiful buttercream Jazz Bass has finally arrived. It's flawless - no sharp frets, no deadspots, no fret buzz, no flaws in finish. And the sound... Man, it's punchy and funky. After a proper setup for my taste it plays smoothly, the neck is comfortable and fast. It was on sale for 570 Euros brand-new, I'm more than happy with her. I can't wait to play it in my band. Here are some pictures of my precious Blondie alone and with my other basses:

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Better snag Sage Green while you still can!

The new colors are great. But it looks to me like only the Jag is available with a maple neck in orange and silver. I think silver looks even better with maple and would love to see it on the P and J.

I have to laugh about the Capri Orange P-bass. They were made CIJ in about 1990. I looked for one for years... rare as hen's teeth... I finally found one last year, and I've been patting myself on the back about having a rare color. But it's all good.

Those are probably my two favorite Fender colors. Wish I had waited before I bought the sage green Jag!!

Maybe I'll buy a silver one and swap the necks between the sage green and silver. I could sell my one of a kind sage green with maple fretboard model.

The new Player colours from Summer NAMM 2019.
Looks like Sage Green has been dropped across the range and Sonic Red is no longer listed for the Precision and Jazz.

Afaik they're still making lefties in sonic red. Would like to see the orange though. Imo sonic red would've been much better with a maple neck. They should get rid of the tidepool P too cause to only have black or that with a maple neck is yech.

I wish Fender didn't feel obliged to always make lefties in black and burst plus dealers around here always get black for basses. It gets really monotonous very quickly.

If Fender really wants to do some real service to lefty players than stop pissing around and give us some real options. I'm always hearing about how lefties are such a small part of the market but when all Fender offers is black/burst and experimental/new colours like sonic red and tidepool and even then only with either maple or PF but not both why the heck would I buy one? You righties quibble constantly about colours so you should understand. Whatever happened to classic colours like candy apple red or LP/Daphine/sonic blue? Yes, I know these aren't current player's series colours but why aren't they? Just BS if you ask me.

Look at Sire. Most everything they produce in both models and colour/fretboard availability is available lefty and if Sire can do it then wth can't Fender. Simple, cause they don't want to.

Tbh I really wish I could get a Sire via my local store. I can't get one online cause I'll def have to make payments/layaway on it plus then there's all the import fees and such. Is there a Sire distributor in Canada?

To the inevitable person out there who wants to tell me that everyone should play righty...piss off in advance!;)

Sorry. Had to vent!:)

Picked up a Player P at a decent price on ebay recently, but just moved house so haven't spent a lot of time with it. It plays great, though! Needs the setup tweaking to my liking, and some new strings, so going to throw some Pressurewounds on there, been meaning to try them out for a while. No fret sprout, so thankfully I can avoid the injustice of having to spend 15 minutes with file. Seller fitted a bridge cover, which I doubt I'll keep on.. with it off, the bass clocks in at slightly over 8lbs.

I'll post up pictures once it's had a once over this weekend. So far so good! Love the slim, wide-ish neck, and the satin finish is lovely.
