I like like my Buttercream Player Jazz just as delivered. The only thing that I have done to mine is a setup to my taste and put on a set of DR Black Beauties. That’s how much and how I like mine. Everyone’s mileage varies.

I realize that everyone has different tastes and I feel that it is perfectly fine that people should do whatever they want to their basses.
I do find it interesting that folks say, “I just bought a Player X and I can’t wait until it gets here so that I can change x, y, and z on it.”
Or, “I just bought a Player X, “What should I change on it as soon as it arrives?”
Or , “My Player X is great since I changed pickups, pickguard, neck, tuners, and electronics.”
It is just fine that folks do that. It’s their bass, they bought it, they can do whatever they want to it.
But, once you do all, or really any of that to a bass, you no longer have a Player X, or whatever series bass that you started out with.
You now have a parts bass, that has some Player, Standard, Special, Performer, Professional, Elite, American Original, or AVRI parts in it. That’s all.
You may feel it is an “upgrade” and it is cool if you do. You should play it and enjoy it. It’s your bass and you made it into what you wanted.
But that bass is no longer a Player, Standard, Special, Performer, Professional, Elite, American Original, AVRI, or whatever series that you started out with.
It is honestly a parts bass now. And that is fine as long as you like it like that. That is what you made it into. To call it anything else though ...
