Ha! That's even funnier than you realize, because I actually do have a Ph.D. -- in Psychology, no less! However, I'm strictly a research scientist, and don't know the first thing about therapy or clinical practice (much less how to cure Bass Guitar Bulimia).

As for that "first ding" thing, I'm as freaked out about that as you are! (Hey, I didn't say it would be EASY....)

Just did a close inspection of mine and noticed it already has some light scratches on the back after five or six gigs. Ah, nitro. Also, a hard-to-spot scuff that happened at home. (Always amazed how my worst dings often happen at home, rather than at the gig.)

You should swap basses with WillieB. Then you'll have a nice pristine one again, and he'll have a pre-scratched one so he can stop worrying about the first ding. Brilliant, right?

OK, I'm on a roll. Anyone else have problems that need solving?

So how come no one has mentioned that this thing comes pre-charged with mojo?! I broke it in at band practice last night, and man, this thing knows how to play all kinds of stuff that I'm sure I can't play, and it's loaded of creative ideas that I never woulda thought of. It was like I just strapped it on and watched it play itself.

Geez, you'd think Fender would advertise that feature. Sure seems like a positive selling point to me....

I'm not saying this bass (or any bass) is for everyone, but after last night, this one is never ever leaving my ownership. Weird gig -- packed house at the grand opening of a brewpub, but a bizarre stage on a balcony above it all. Plus, I'd had a tough week in my day job and was ripe for an off night playing wise, which is exactly how I felt during part of the first set. But the bass itself sounded so good. And that improved my mood. I was simply getting off on the sound of it. And we had a great second set. The kind of experience that deepens one's bond with an instrument.

Hi all,

Had an awesome gig lastnight..

The perfect gig for this Bass, 3 piece (Guitarist with a Gibson Flying V and a JCM800 Marshall halfstack, Me with My 60th through my TC Rebelstack & Drums)...

A small but enthusiastic crowd playing the best of the 60-70's (Sabbath/Purple/Hendrix etc).. Our "oldies" show...

I was told it sounded "Thunderous" :-) Even from 2 blocks away.. They had to come down and see what was making that beautiful noise :-)

It's already got it's first few dings as well... Far too easy to do but I'm looking forward to a genuine "Roadworn" look...

Maybe I should try some flats too?

I never played the strings it came with, Had the guys do some minor tweaking and put a set of DRs (not sure what type) on before I picked it up..

Deff has he growl... I love it!!!

Interesting thread on this bass. I have to go check one out. I have always wanted to add a P w/flats to my arsenal but have felt my Sadowsky JJ was close enough with half rounds on it.

However, I landed a new gig with a band that will be great for the Sadowsky with rounds on it, so that leaves me without a bass with flats or half rounds. I have another act which is a spoof on traditional country music- don't ask- and would love to have something with flats on it, and especially something with vintage looks.

I don't want to drop a ton of cash on it for just one act, so this seems possible given these are going used for $1k right now.

well hello 60th pbass bruthas happy post turkey day.

I closed my for sale thread.

I put on La Bella Quarter Rounds.

I adjusted the pickup height per Fender specs.

W O W and let me tell ya .... I'm not a pick player ... yet .... but playing this
bass with a pic is amazing.

I'm considering a bridge cover ... but I'll have to look at that for a bit.

WillieB -- That's great to hear that you finally closed that for-sale thread and are (appropriately) blown away by your bass. I'll bet that with those strings, played pickstyle, it is one snarly, growly beast.

I also am a fingerstyle player who aspires to add pickstyle to my repertoire. For now, though, I'm beginning to think that I might want to switch out the La Bella flats I put on a couple of weeks ago for something else. (I happen to have an opened package of TI Powerbass strings that I picked up awhile back because I found a good deal on them, so I might try those.) I'm getting a beautiful round tone with the flats that is great in its own way, but it definitely doesn't have as much of that nasty growl I heard (and loved) with the original roundwound strings -- at least when played pickstyle. I'll file a report if I/when I decide to make the switch....
