Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

Ok. It was the new road worn ones that caught my eye. Liking the white one for some reason.

They've got one in my local L&M, and it's very nice. By far the nicest of all their mid- to high(ish)- end basses. Plays beautifully, and has that great but undefinable Road Worn feel.

The neck is fat, though, which I like , but YMMV. It's also not light by any stretch. Weight isn't a huge factor for me, so I don't have a very good sense of how heavy it actually is, but it definitely has heft. If weight is a factor, I'd put it into the 'try before you buy' category.

Which L&M was that.

Port Coquitlam, BC. Fantastic store and staff (disclosure that I'm friends with some), but not the best stocked bass department. A few MIA Fenders, Musicman (Musicmen?), Gibson, and Rics for about 20 minutes before they sell.

Now, the Vancouver store has some beautiful stuff. Jean Savoie brings in Sadowskis, Dingwalls, Fender Custom Shop, Ric 4004s, and a bunch of other stuff. Definitely worth a visit if you're out here...

I'm late!

I really love this thing.

How are your anniversary P-Basses? Anybody sold their? ...

I bought mine new in '11. While it's not my main player, it does maintain a spot in the rotation. I don't play it a lot so have thought about flipping it to put towards something else on my GAS list (currently, a fretless), but then its turn comes 'round and as soon as I play it I decide it's gonna stay.

A shop near me recently got a used one in. Lasted only a few days before it sold. I know for a fact he'd take mine in a trade in a heartbeat, but there's just something about a 'P with flats' that keeps calling me!

Not crazy about the gloss neck finish. I prefer the wax/oil like on MM, or a light satin. But that's a minor nit to pick. The only time it got sticky enough to bother me was on an outdoor gig on a humid night in August.

Glossy neck? Are you sure you're talking about the 60th Anniversary model?

Yep, that's the one. In Fender-speak, it's lacquer. But it's a thicker finish than on any of my other basses, and my thumb doesn't glide up & down the back of it like it does on my Sadowsky, Music Man, or Lakland basses. As mentioned, it hasn't been a deal breaker in 4+ years; and I know it's nothing that a little sandpaper or steel wool couldn't remedy, but I've kept it stock.
