I'm going to reduce the heigh of the thumbrest by cutting roughly 1/8" off the bottom. Maybe a hair or two more.

I've always felt these thumbrest are pointless because of their height, shape and placement. I may even have a custom wooden thumbrest made, that's differently shaped (but can still utilize existing screw holes) and slopes down a bit, so it can actually come to some practical use.

I really love these frets. These "Vintage Style" frets are great. I've never been into Jumbo frets, or Medium Jumbo frets (I deal with them because they're on almost every bass out on the market). But I much prefer low and wide, or like these..."Vintage Style".

I still haven't removed the plastic sheet over the pickguard. With the color of this finish, I think I just may have the perfect replacement pickguard for it : )

I don't know when I could get that up. I don't currently have any decent recording component.

I have been saving up for one, but it may be several more weeks before I buy it.

I will try to borrow something from the guys in the band.

grum, I didn't forget about that pic you requested. Just waiting for our camera to find it's way back home. The wife took the camera to our friends house:rolleyes: on Friday night and let her borrow it for a few days.

So as soon as it makes it's back here, I'll take a pic or two.

I agree with everythiong you have stated. These basses, in my opinon, are pretty much identical in quality to the American Standard series.

There are some differences in tone/sound/pickups and overall design.

But very similar.

Mine is getting a little aesthetic makeover, right now.

Meh.

I have been waiting for a Fender MIA P-Bass with the 1975 Black-Red-Yellow sunburst with rosewood FB and Black PG for years.

MIJ used to have a convincing one with the 70's lettering on the headstock and I've come close to buying one but it's an ASH body and they don't seem to offer them any longer...

C'mon Fender, quit this nonsense and release the 1975 PB for us would ya? I mean, you offer the same paint scheme in a Jazz so what gives?

But she just arrived roughly 30 minutes ago. I'm still finishing up work, so I haven't had a whole amount of time to play her. I gave 'er a quick look over and I basically plucked out a quick tune; then got back to work.

I'll post some pictures later. She definitely needs a little adjustment/setup tweek, though. Traveling from Texas to here, got her a wee-bit out of sorts.

But I have to admit, she stills plays relatively nice. I like the feel so far. After the adjustments, it should be sweet.

How much does she weigh? Hopefully less than the 70's P. ( I know they weren't all heavy :))

I haven't actually put them (my 2011 American Standard and this 70's Reissue) on a scale to compare. But just by picking them up in my hands and feeling their weight on my body; the weight difference is marginal.

They are very close in weight. But they are both lighter than any original 70's P-bass I have ever played.

Earlier in the spring I played/auditioned a 1978 P-bass with a baseball bat of a neck, at a local music store and that was much heavier. I liked it to a certain degree, but those meaty necks just don't work for me.

These two P-basses ( 2011 American Standard and this 70's Reissue) are much lighter and so much more playable, than that original 1978 P-bass. And quite frankily, these pickups are much better sounding, too.
