Fender '70s Precision Bass

Just for the record: the individual who called Dave a liar is mistaken. The Classic '51 reissues have always been manufactured in Japan ("crafted in Japan"). Check your facts, friend, that might save you from erroneous statements (and gratuitous insults).
That's the beauty of life. Everyone has different tastes and different opinions. Nothing is for everyone.

A nice bass, no doubt.
I'm still puzzled as to why the Fender product description claims this is "authentic." I have a '71 P-bass, have had a '70, and a '68. I saw the slide of Fender under CBS ownership. I played a lot of basses at local shops in Queens, NY, Boston, MA, and Providence, RI back then. The only P-basses with blocks I ever saw (or owned) had rosewood equipped pre 3-bolt Jazz Bass necks. Were these supposed maple/blocked basses sold in the late 70's, like '77-79?
Is it possible Fender produced these P-basses (with maple/blocked fingerboards) in the 70's to finish off the 4-bolt Jazz neck stocks? If so, I have never seen one. Anybody else? Just wondering...

Doesn't feel like a Jazz neck. Feels like a P-bass neck (in terms of neck width), but seems a little thinner in depth (fingerboard to back of neck) than my 2011 American Standard P-bass.
But she just arrived roughly 30 minutes ago. I'm still finishing up work, so I haven't had a whole amount of time to play her. I gave 'er a quick look over and I basically plucked out a quick tune; then got back to work.
I'll post some pictures later. She definitely needs a little adjustment/setup tweek, though. Traveling from Texas to here, got her a wee-bit out of sorts.
But I have to admit, she stills plays relatively nice. I like the feel so far. After the adjustments, it should be sweet.
I played it some more and I evaluated and compared the neck to my American Standard P-bass, The measurements (width) at the nut and all the way down the fretboard are the same.
Even the depth is almost identical. It does seem to be just a hair thinner in depth, but I don't have the proper tool to measure it. By visual inspection and by wrapping my hands around both necks and feeling the two necks, the difference seems to be mostly in the slight difference of the contour of the "C" shape. Differences in neck depth/thickness seems to be tiny.
This 70's bass seems to slope down from the edge of the fingerboard earlier and at a more downward slope, where as the American Standard seems to have a wee-bit more of ramp (for lack of a better word) that protrudes back, before curving down to towards the center of the neck.
I'm not as knowledgeable about all the different neck contours, shapes and sizes; as a lot of you guys are. But I am learning.
I have to say, in just playing a modest 6 songs it is a very comfortable neck to play, and fun too.
The gloss on the neck hasn't bothered me, yet. But if it does, that can be changed.
Thus far, I really like these pickups. Of course the real test will be when I play with my band and get an idea how it sits in the mix. But I sure like these pups, right now.

Note: This finish is more of a Vintage White finish. I swear (and so does the wifey) that there's a hint of cream in this finish. I like it.
I really love these frets. These "Vintage Style" frets are great. I've never been into Jumbo frets, or Medium Jumbo frets (I deal with them because they're on almost every bass out on the market). But I much prefer low and wide, or like these..."Vintage Style".
I still haven't removed the plastic sheet over the pickguard. With the color of this finish, I think I just may have the perfect replacement pickguard for it : )

Thanks for the pics, very nice looking guitar. I think I am pretty set on one of these, though I feel as though I should play one first. Can't decide whether to get the white or the sunburst though.
Dunno if this is a weird question, but do you have any pics of you playing the bass? Just trying to see if I could imagine myself playing a white one.

LOL, no. No pics of me playing it, yet. I will have wifey take some when she gets home.
But I don't think you'll want to use me as the measuring stick for aesthetic appeal, lol
They are inlays. I took a magnifying glass (one of those with LED lights) and I could see the faint edges where the wood was cut out for the inlays. But you really have to look hard and keep focused.
What the inlays are made of, I have no idea. I guess some kind of vinly strip or something like that?
