He modded it himself, but lutehole will mod it for you for a price.

I'm still waiting for someone to purchase and report/review on one of the new Shaded Burst Kingman's so I can decide on either one of those or giving another shot to one of the outgoing Black versions.

I have to agree with @Queue ‘s quandary, what makes you say that? I’ve seen nothing in any Ad or Vid or official 7ender publication that the black version of the Kingman is on the way out.

Sweet club right here! Love my Kingman, I've played "better" ABG's (louder, fuller, more expensive) but have never enjoyed one more. Mine is a V1 with the Presys+ and a K&K Pure Bass under saddle pickup. I enjoy very light low tension Roto FM66 strings on the Kingman, especially once they've lost some zing.View attachment 5159237

That's not one of the new Kingman's, it's a V1. They don't call the new Shaded Burst model a V2 like the previous models, just "Kingman". Fender told me the Black V2's are going away and only the new Shaded Burst would remain.

I’ve put Fender 9120 tape wounds on my Kingman V-1. Playing it a lot more now as it fits our mix better. Closest I’m gonna get to upright sound.

I see it's actually called 'Shaded Edge Burst'. That is really odd. I guess they don't want to say 'Tobacco Burst' for some reason?

Maybe, but it looks pretty cool no matter what you call it.

I love the feel and playability of my Kingman! I had to fab a new bridge that was a little taller, as the action was too low when I got it, but once I got that dialed in, it was smooth sailing. Of course, the Jazz bass neck was super familiar, and made my left hand feel right at home. Here's a pic of my Fender fam, with the Kingman out front!
