Fender ABG Club

Not sure what you mean? I have 21 ABG's and none do that when plugged in. Can you describe it better?

I don’t know if it’s the same situation, but the under the saddle piezo wire pickup on my BG32 would pick up what I can only describe as my finger unsticking from my nylon tapewounds when I played. I hated it so much that I replaced the tapewounds with flatwounds, hated that even more (on that bass) and replaced the pickup with a K&K style, put tapewounds back on and have been happy since.

You can also try different types of foam mutes. I’ve tried over the strings, under the strings, dense foam, light foam slotted, unslotted, and even weaving a thin strip of cloth through the strings. Helps to varying degrees with getting rid of unwanted frequencies. I also just put some copper flat spirals on and my BG-29 plays and sounds very warm and mellow now, with almost no finger or fret noise.

Unfortunately, these don’t seem to be available in short scale.

John, I'm a couple of months late coming into this, but I'm wondering which tape wounds you put on your Kingman, and what length strings did you use? I'm eyeing a Kingman at a local GC which is 30" scale and wondering about strings.

Also, is there a gig bag or case for this?

What brand/gauge of tape wound?

I use La Bella 7710 black tapes on my double bass because, well, Ron Carter. I tried La Bella 750 tapes on my Kingman after I got it three years ago and while I recall liking them initially there was an issue that I don't remember now. It may have been that the string lost too much tension as it aged. Dunno but I'm back to using Fender 45s because they're cheap and I like to change strings a lot.

Sweetwater has a simple gig bag for the Kingman. I bought mine from them and it came with the bass.

I have D’Addario tapes on my 30” scale BG32 and they are great.

Rather than get lost down the path of string choices, I stick with D'Addarios. Without fishing the pack out of the trash I assume the tapes on my Kingman are those. They came short scale. It came with an inexpensive Fender soft bag, which is good, because it is a big short scale.

Question: I have 2 ABG’s, neither of which will currently play through my keyboard amp (HHElectronics H100), but will play through my rumble 25.
Amp works with my electric, and does buzz when I plug in my ABG. Batteries seem fine, (test at over 9v)but I will try using absolutely fresh batteries tomorrow. I don’t know much about amps, but could the battery powered on-board pre-amp in my 2 ABG’s be too weak to power the keyboard amp?
Thanks for any ideas.
