  • I have an FA-450CE; will post a photo a little later.
Same with me, I just bought a Fender FA-450CE

A pic from this summer....

The singer wanted to do "Man Who Sold the World" (The Nirvana cover version) I happily obliged, tuned my Kingman to Eb, and rocked it out! (Don't think I could sing and play that song, but only playing allowed me to do a fair version of all those little bass runs in the chorus.)

The Kingman, even with its 30" scale, still sounds pretty good tuned down a half step. The band I am currently in is always tuned down to Eb in an effort to accommodate our aging croaky voices.

Hello guys. I have a question regarding my Fender FA450. Yesterday, I changed the strings and I put Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. I've had these strings in some electric basses and I like them. It sounds really good when it's not plugged. It's true that it now sounds a little less loud than with the bronze Fender strings, but it doesn't bother me. I really like the sound.
However, when I plug it, it has some string noise. It's not fret noise, it's like a mid bump. I've watched some Youtube videos and I think it's common and it also happens with bronze strings, but it was less obvious. That noise it's not when played unplugged, so it must be the preamp. It's like finger noise, I don't know. Is it normal?

Try turning down the treble a bit?

I put tapes on my Kingman and the piezo reacted strongly to the change in strings so I had to adjust the EQ a bit but they ended up sounding great. Also, flats can sound different as they break in (as any Precision bassist will tell you!).

Yes, I did that. Following your advice, I will try to EQ better to see if the sound improves. And also, being flats, I will have to play it a lot until they break. Back to the shed!

It’s always good to try to stick to strings made for ABG’s if possible.
Could be that your strings aren’t seated properly at the ball ends? Does your model use bridge pins or string through bridge? I can’t recall and I’m not on my pc to do a quick check.

Hi everybody. This my Kingman sce. Use it when playing in the street with only one Singer. I'm looking portable speaker to match it and get it louder. Still works for quiet places. Idk if the new V2 is louder or quieter? Looks smaller and easier to travel with it.
Oooooooooooo, that's a looker! Like that burst!

Never heard an acoustic bass guitar that was loud enough for a gig on its own. I run my Kingman v2 directly into the board and out to the PA, so perhaps you don't need a dedicated amp? Does your singer use a mic and small acoustic amp? There may be an instrument channel for it, unless they are using it. Or get a used acoustic amp for small money.

( Don't know your budget. I have also played through the Bose S1 mini PA. At acoustic volume it handles bass just fine, but it's $500.)

Yeah i'm looking an pa speaker for both singer and bass. I saw one on Amazon with good reviews I will give it a shot. Nothing fancy... Is for street performer and need to have a battery.

Btw yeah if you sing or have a singer and play the bass with a pick strong enough you can compete with a singer. I was using elixirs phosphor bronze. Now I will check DR rare. Of course you need to have a good action to stop fret buzz. I never tried another acoustic bass to know if are louder. I Know maybe fender not make bigger basses because this bass is huge to be moving around and walking several miles so idk about a bigger bass. But if someday fender makes an carbon fiber bass I'm down for it. Supposedly that material resonate stronger and can compete with an acoustic guitar.

update. Instantly louder with the strings.

Note: they are new vs the elixirs. They are bigger, the E string is 105 and are stiffer. They are harsher in the fingers no doubt.
My fingers would first cry and then reject me. Glad they work for you. Rumble 25's are small and light and likely way more than enough for your

A Rumble 25 would be perfect. I liked mine.
