Fender Aerodyne Club!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought all Aerodynes adjusted at the headstock. Is there some other model that adjusts at the neck-heel that I'm unaware of?

Not that I know. I was referring to my non-Aerodyne basses (yes, those need TLC, too).

Made an observation on this Aerodyne I just picked up

it has narrow frets (my preferred style)

But it lists on Fenders site as Medium Jumbo


Anyone else’s Aerodyne have the narrow or vintage style frets?

Definitely has a more organic sound, but very bright and grindy (that was the objective)

Pickups are very hot, so has a nice bite if needed, and a solid punch finger style. Mellows out nice rolling the volume or tone off

The balance and the neck are superb. Very easy to play

sounds good. Stock pickups on mine were hot wound but thin on tone. I replaced them with DiMarzios.... and I have yet another set of pickups on the workbench that I hope that later this winter to be doing a pickup swap.

So much on my to-do list with having just moved last year after 28 years in one house that its a bit daunting.

I found the tone to be the best when the volume is rolled off about 10-15%
But always good to know about info on the swap

Push comes to shove, I’d need to find a match for the GZR P pup I already have

Yes! I think I posted about this a while back as well, my non-export has super narrow little frets compared to my other two jazzes, and I LOVE it. Confused about the medium-jumbo description, cuz that ain’t what’s on mine. Maybe it was refretted at some point, I bought it second hand.

Mine is a 2003, so we’re at opposite ends of the timeline

Thanks, I'll have to look up my serial number. I bought mine used in 2005 so its at least that old.

So my whole "Pandemic Project" to upgrade my Aerodyne was pretty much a failure..
I installed Black GOTOH keys. A D-Tuner
I swapped the pickups for Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders
I replaced the bridge with a Badass high mass
And the sound sucked LOL
So I left it with a professional and I just got her back... So happy with the result! Next time I'll leave it to the pros!

Redid all the soldering and electronics
Straightened the neck, adjusted pickups and bridge, fixed the nut as I changed to Flatwound
Polished the fretboard
So everything LOL

So do you think it was the pickup adjustment that "fixed" the sound, or maybe the solder job?

OK. So Lets start a Fender Aerodyne Club. I'll go first. Here is my Aerodyne. I picked this up in Dec. 05 from Guitar Center. Cost $600 w/tax and I never considered selling it. Still won't. I have it strung with D'Addario Chromes. So lets see the Aerodynes guys.

Just bought one of these! I will get it next week I think. I love Daddario but I ue the tapewounds.

I also have a P aerodyne bass ( see my profile pic).

I have a 2004 CIJ . Can't use the J pickup because of the hum, but I love the stock P pups. Never considered upgrading...until now!

I heard the Q is special. Why do you want to upgade? I also heard if you put copper tape in the control cavity it will stop the hum, but I am glad to hear the stock P pups are good. I have Seymour Duncan quarter pounder on my P bass here.
