At a glance, and assuming the pots are in the same position as on a Jazzy control plate, it looks like it's '60s-era placement. More often than not, if a bass has '70s-style pickup positioning, FMIC will mention it as a feature.

I'm still planning on doing my own Jino-inspired treatment to my '70s-style Jazz. It's stalled a little, but only because I'm dragging my feet on that Projekt.

I sold the bass in my avatar.
It was a custom order, and fantastically executed. I just finally admitted to myself that I didn't spec the build right in terms of measurements, etc. I didn't really know what I wanted when I ordered the bass, and also my playing style and stuff changed over the last few years. I just found myself playing it very little, and not enjoying like I should. I keep my stuff in really good condition, so I was able to get most of my investment back out of it. I put some of the money towards some home renovation projects and bought the Fender Japen Elemental and Jino basses with the rest. Guess I should change my avatar, huh?

I wish I was better at guitar but my wallet is glad I'm not. I have one guitar I hardly play and it's a Telecaster but if they had the HSS Stratocaster in the same finish, I'd have likely bought it as I could justify having both a Tele and Strat as a Bass player. It would also match my Hot Rod Precision and something about that I just like. I'm currently waiting for the Jazz to ship and arrive but in the meantime the Precision has been getting my time lately.

Also just for the sake of wondering or what if, I really think that some of the colors would look better on other models. For instance I personally like the Bright White Precision the least and would've rather seen a Dolphin Grey Precision and a Bright White Jazz. White jazz basses are just sexy and add in the sleek aerodyne style with no pickguard and the black binding begs to be on a Jazz body. In that same regard I really like the Speed Green Metallic but think it would look amazing with Rosewood on a Jazz. Some colors just look better on certain body shapes and even fewer look good on both in my opinion.

If they would have also released the Precision in California blue with a maple neck (like the Jazz) I would have bought that at full price right off the bat along with the Jazz at the end of last year.
The fact that they did NOT do that saved me $550, lol! Played the P at church today and it was great! Sounded awesome through the PA. I have gotten at least 5 compliments on the bass playing/sound today, and that's pretty rare, haha!
I did have to "fight it" a little due to the higher action I gave it to fight the little bit of fret buzz, but it wasn't oppressive or anything. Once it gets dialed in by a pro, it's going to be FANTASTIC. I really like the pickup. It's just RIGHT THERE in your face. Not really in an aggressive or harsh way, but just very authoritative and clear. Again, whereas the Jazz is a nice and well-rounded classic J sound, I feel like the P is more modern and punchy than you'd expect from a "vintage P." I like it.
Compared to my AM Pro II the Aerodyne is definitely more modern and has hotter pickups for sure. I've been very lucky as both came right to me set up amazingly out of the box. The AM Pro from Sweetwater and the Aerodyne from Empire Music. Both claim to do in house set ups so theirs that. Im not a big blue guy but I hear you on the California Blue. I specifically bought my Vintera jazz in Daphne Blue to save $1000 from buying the AVRII Precision in Daphne Blue. Beautiful color. Well today was the moment of truth. Commence Operation: "Don't worry, be happy!" Did I get a great deal or a lemon?..........
Absolutely astounding the quality of Japanese Fenders and this Jazz is no exception along with the Precision.
Here's my $599 Dolphin Grey Jazz from Reverb. I'm already in LOVE with this neck as much as my Precision. I consider myself a P guy and prefer chunky necks to thin ones but this is hands down the BEST Jazz neck I've ever played. Of course the silky smooth satin finish is like warm butter but the thickness of this neck is the baby bears porridge. In other words " Just Right."
The balance is absolutely perfect on a strap same as the Precision. The Aerodynes to me are the most comfortable instruments I've played in terms of neck and weight. It's essentially an extension of my body the moment I strap them on and that's what I feel everyone wants when finding the right instrument.
I like the modern vibe these portray while also staying true to the OGs. The little things like the matching headstock and the body binding along with the futuristic UFO spaceship Jazz knobs. Personally I wish they would've put some unique knobs on the P. Maybe even the same ones on the Jazz on the Precision would just be cool but that's just me. The tuners are flawless and again "warm butter" with how smoothly they roll. Like a ball bearing smooth. As for the pickups they sound great and have a bit of a modern sound but not as noticeable as the Precision. The single coils in my Jazz are mouse fart silent. I have to crank the amp to 10 just to hear a slight buzz. For reference my Player series Jazz sounds like a sledgehammer on 3.
Now down to my final point and it was actually the first thing I noticed when I opened the case. THE COLOR. I wanted a Rosewood Jazz and was interested in the Chocolate burst when they went on sale for $799. Then reverb listed this for $599. Well truth be told the Dolphin Grey always stuck in my head and especially so after watching Patrick Hunter's YouTube video on it. The one @musicman556 commented on and was actually his comment there along with here that pushed me to get it. The reverb listing didn't do this color justice as it was against a white background and bright lighting. Very hard to capture the "metallic" finish. In person this is beautiful and 100% my style.
My only actual complaint is how Franklin Guitar Works listed this as "Used" and from what I received would be led to believe this is "Brand New." Get em while you can!!!!
Not the best pictures and my basement is hard to capture the right light but I feel these are more accurate and representative of what our eyes would see in person.

Man... your pictures make it look WAY BETTER than the Fender and Sweetwater pics! Sheesh. Now I may be having to take my own medicine and buy myself a Dolphin from FGW, too. I AM from Miami... I grew up around dolphins both of the aquatic and sporting nature, just 5 minutes from Dolphins stadium and 10 minutes from the ocean. I already have Crockett and Tubbs, my Miami Vice tribute basses... I guess I am now forced to purchase a Dolphin Gray bass!
The white Precision has flown under the radar here at the house with wifey, since it looks so similar to the Elemental Jazz I have. I don't have any gray basses, so .....

Yep, I got the maple P and you got the maple Jazz. Then it was your rosewood P and my rosewood J. You know what they say about like minds!
The colors look way better in person and especially with the overhead lights on as you can see in the latter pictures. It's definitely a warm light and they pop. The hot rod burst has an orange glow to it and it's lovely! I don't gig but I can only imagine what it would look like under bright stage lights where it would likely come alive even more.
I personally have a soft spot for the Grey as my first vehicle was an f150 of the same color. After I bought it and then eventually sold it, I ended up paying the same amount of money as a new aerodyne msrp price! Talk about an amazing investment. Many memories in that old truck too. Looking at this bass reminds me of them. Its the little things in life.
With that being said you seem to have a good back story/connection with the color as well and by all means that's reason enough to grab one! Heck you can even tell your wife I was the internet influence this time.

I just pulled the trigger last night on a Dolphin Grey Jazz on Reverb myself…on its way! The great reviews on these modern Aerodynes got me seriously shopping…was focusing on one of the original, all-black export models, but spotted the new, Dolphin Special…Wow! Found one with a darker fingerboard (almost ebony) and now I’ll be joining the A-Club! Can’t wait!
