Fender Aerodyne Club!

As I suspected, dealers have alot of these. Granted this is one seller but this is an amazing price!
Fender Aerodyne Special Precision Bass Guitar - Bright White | Reverb
Fender Aerodyne Special Jazz Bass Guitar - Dolphin Gray | Reverb

This seller is MIRC, Musical Instrument Reclamation Corporation. They buy all the factory 2nds/scraps/unsellable stock in bulk from the manufacturers and de-serialize (to make them non-warrantable) them, and usually do a good job of making sure they function. Just know that these are for some reson or another, essentially "factory rejects."

I've seen the ones sold as "used" with the special sticker over the serial number which indicates exactly what you're stating. However I've saved a good bit buying B-Stock in the past and has actually become my favorite Jazz bass. ( Paint imperfection in the next pocket the size of a toothpick.) Over $300 off new just because it was "B-Stock." I understand the potential risk involved but the savings are more often than not worth it. For example ProAudioStar will run "used/open box " items at a discount but come with no manufacturers warranty. Many instances have claimed that they received a brand new instrument with the tape split on the box the only thing deeming it "open box." Most of them don't even leave the box save for a few pictures so as long as its only cosmetic and you can live with it I say go for it.

If resale is a consideration, I would steer clear of a any bass without a serial number. If it's just a sticker I guess someone could just remove it and nobody would ever know. Not something I would do. If you plan on keeping it forever, sounds like a good deal.

No worries there. Someone would know. B-Stock decals are glued down tight over the original serial number. Peeling it off would remove the original decal and probably a little finish as well. That, and they're usually accompanied with an embossed 'USED' stamp near the end of the headstock, much like this Squier Standard P-Bass Special I acquired many years ago.

I completely agree as I would personally never buy one with the sticker. Talk about being too proud or ego whatever but I just wouldn't buy it unless seeing it first and it's an absolute deal. However the ones I posted look no different than the ones you're getting new from Fender. Being used they just don't come with the warranty.

It is quite possible Fender has a newer system in place to track B-stock instruments. (e.g.: The Squier I pictured above dates back to the early/mid-2000s.) That, or they may use completely different systems altogether for Fenders vs. Squiers.

Either way, I'll leave that sort of investigation up to someone else. Since I'm not in any rush to get a second-gen Aerodyne, it doesn't really pertain to me, outside of my usual level of research into "Aerodyne Lore". :bookworm:

I have been trying my best to get through the end of the year without any new purchases, but I had to scoop up the white aerodyne P for $600 from that posting on reverb. Always wanted the classic piano black aerodyne pj because I love the rounder fingerboard radius, but this was too good of a deal for a MIJ P.

I'll happily be the guinea pig on the serial number/"used" branding since I pulled the trigger before the discussion on b stocks was started . If it plays well, it's not to big of a problem for me.

I'd be willing to bet you won't notice any negligible differences between it and brand new. Congrats

Just rocked the house for a big costume party bash downtown. The Aerodyne Special J was just perfect the whole night. I love this thing so much! I check the tuning before every set, but literally did not have touch the tuning keys once we started the gig.

Effortless playability, easy on the hands and shoulder, sounds absolutely fantastic going from smooth and round to punch and grind depending on attack, pick/fingers and location. Just a sheer dang delight!

I was Michaelangelo the Ninja Turtle. Cowabunga Dudes!

Can't wait for the Precision to get here! Hope it'll be as good.

Prediction: happiness!

I had a chance to play a new white Aerodyne P and it is a great bass! Plays and feels great, sounds thunderous though the Trace Elliott Elf 10-in combo I plugged into. Fit and finish were flawless as far as I could tell, and the neck and fretwork were smooth and comfortable. Neck width is wider than my og export PJ Aerodyne, pretty standard P width (I think 1.65 inches), but gave me no trouble after a couple of minutes to get used to it. This one was set up with rounds, a nearly a flat neck and had low action with no buzz, much to my liking. Tone knob was effective for getting darker tones to throw down a little reggae, and it had great brightness with the tone opened up for some Dan, etc. I'd say it has a more modern P tone than mine with the P soloed (mine has EMG Geezers). I prefer flats, but I could have been very happy gigging that bass just like I found it. It would certainly be the perfect yang to the yin of that black PJ! But they ordered a Rev Thundergun for me to try out, so I resisted. This time.:smug:

One of the things I like about this music shop is that they usually setup their instruments nicely before they put them out. One of the reasons that the tire store across the street gets my business is that I can kill time in a store with quality instruments for the 2 hours they always seem to need, so I was there for over an hour yesterday, and I spent a lot of it with that bass.

I've bought so many basses from them over the years, they don't seem to mind me killing time there. (That and I try not to be too loud. But that Trace! :woot:)

You guys convinced me. Ordered the speed green P bass. Sign me up for the aerodyne club!

Congrats on your purchase! Be sure to post pics when it arrives, as is customary when joining :p.

It's an honor to be an official member of the Aerodyne Club! I got it yesterday. It looks and sounds great. Neck is straight, action is low (maybe too low), and it feels great. I can't wait to put some flats on it though.

Well, she arrived very quickly from the reverb shop. I ordered late Thursday night and it was at my doorstep by Sunday morning. Beautiful bass with the standard cheap fender gig bag and all. Serial number still intact and not a scratch on the body. The neck is so nice, it’s my first rosewood board in a while. There is definitely neck dive due to the small basswood body, but it balances out pretty well with a medium width strap from my initial tests. It likely won’t bother me by the time I attach the strap, wireless transmitter, backbeat g1, and iem pack for the bigger shows. Really it's most noticeable when you carry it in the fender gig bag by the side handle and the headstock immediately launches towards the floor lol.

So far that’s the only “issue” I’ve found. I would maybe be a little annoyed if I paid full MSRP and didn’t see that coming, but having already expected it and only paid $600, it feels like a STEAL. I'm a happy camper.

Does yours sound overly bright or downright harsh when the tone knob is rolled on? I mostly play my Ps tone off but even completely off it's still significantly brighter than my other P. I know the pickups are modern but I feel the strings are the biggest factor here.

Any noticeable or discernable differences between yours and what one would receive "brand new?"
