Fender Aerodyne Club!

Hey everyone. Right now I have a 2015 MiM Standard Jazz bass and I have the white Aerodyne P Bass coming next week.

As I stated earlier I currently focus on guitar/drums and plan to get back into bass guitar as a fun side quest. Been listening to a lot of Grateful Dead lately and Phil’s playing has inspired me to get back into it. I’m kind of meh on the jazz bass I own as it’s kind of bland (black with white pickguard and a maple neck) and it never really inspired me to pick it up. Am I nuts for wanting to sell my current Jazz bass and buy the California Blue J Bass to replace it? Seems like a solid step-up in quality and I’d enjoy the finish.

This is probably terminal levels of GAS talking lol. Maybe I should just chill and be happy with the P Bass that’s coming.

I personally favor a Precision with Rosewood. That white P is amazing for the price considering the quality of Japanese instruments, unique color/matching headstock, Rosewood board and comes with a gig bag for $599.

I am partial to 60s-70s music myself and while I'm not a big Grateful Dead fan, I do enjoy a few of their tunes. Specifically this one. Hope you enjoy it!

I’ll have to see what my bass would go for. I assume including a strap, straploks, gig bag and the bass being in excellent condition $550 isn’t out of the realm of prices.

@musicman556 bought one of the White Precisions so if you have any questions about it I'm sure he would be more than happy to enable another Aerodyne purchase and club member!

NOW they add the other colors. I grabbed the white P but would have preferred the speed green with maple neck. Either way I snagged a couple super basses for unbeatable prices.

Also, I've fitted a white moto pickguard to mine a while ago but never posted the pic (or so I think?) Makes the blue pop even more.

I'll take a proper pic some other time with my DSLR since the lighting was poopoo on that pic. Doesn't do the color justice.

I essentially made the same play myself. It was easier for me because I had never fully bonded with the jazz bass I just sold in order to get the dolphin grey aerodyne. There are so many cool basses that bring inspiration through look, feel, sound, whatever it may be, that I can’t save space in the roster for basses I don’t bond with or enjoy playing.

I am also so impressed with the quality of the Japanese Fenders versus the MIM and MIC Squier gear I’ve spent more time with. Jumping from basically the best MIM Fender has to offer over to this MIJ jazz bass, I much prefer the aerodyne. At least from my initial 30 mins of playing unplugged

Is your purchase showing up in your reverb account? I see the Tele I bought a couple weeks back as a recent purchase, but I'm not seeing the P Bass I bought on Friday. I did get an email from them/reverb saying that shipping information has been added to my order, but I can't see the detail. I messaged Franklin Guitar about it, but I havn't heard back yet.

Slightly off topic from your question, but how are you liking the Tele? It’s such a killer deal on all of these that I’m starting to GAS for one of their guitars as well. Even their acoustasonic models had me thinking the other day and I definitely don’t have a use for that right now

I'm not experienced at guitar, so take my words with a grain of salt. I have three guitars currently:

1. Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard
2. Yamaha Pacifica 611HFM
3. Fender Aerodyne Telecaster

Without a doubt the Telecaster is my favorite. The neck feels amazing to the touch, it came setup perfectly (my luthier wouldn't even entertain the idea of doing a setup as he felt it was great out of the box), and it just feels good in the hands. I can't describe it, but it just feels magical to hold it and play on it.

The Pacifica is very closely behind the Telecaster and I'd say I enjoy the Les Paul the least. Just a honkin' piece of heavy wood with a fat neck. I got an amazing deal on it - $600 w/Epiphone case due to Guitar Center screwing up and including it in a sale when they should not have. If I don't end up jiving with it I may sell it off and just keep the two.
