Check the serial number at the base of the neck. If it's a newer model, it will say "Made In Japan" and start with "JD". The next two numbers are the year it was manufactured. If it's an older model, check this resource…

All Aerodynes are manufactured in Japan, whether they do or don't have pickguards and control plates. The big difference is which market they're made for.
The type @Honk'n_down-low has is the "Export Edition", which is shipped out to all parts of the world. If it has a pickguard and control plate, or if it looks like an Export Edition, but has a flush-mounted output jack instead of a Stratocaster jack, it's a "Japan Exclusive Edition". These have to be specially imported from the Land of the Rising Humidity.

Man. I would be the happiest bass player in the world to stumble on an aerodyne p bass in that color. That’s my dream bass. I got these guys until than.

So I have had my Aerodyne for a week now and I am interested to know what strings are you guys using - I am partial to flats - but open to anything that works well with this Bass. I believe it currently had EB Rounds on it - but they are lighter than standard gauge so I will be changing them soon. Thanks!
I use TI's on 99% of my basses but...... my Aero has GHS Precision Flats in the light gauge. They work well on that bass. The main reason I have those is that they did not sound "right" (to me) on the P bass I was working on at the time. I took them off and moved them to the Aerodyne and they never left that bass. A nice affordable string too.
I have two suggestions. When I got my Aerodyne, which was also my first-ever bass, I took it in to a local musical instruments store for a full set-up. The guy working the counter not only suggested I get some new strings (apparently, the old ones were dead…not that I could tell, newbie that I was), but pulled a set of .100-gauge D'Addario Chromes off the rack. They're nice and thumpy, but can yield a little brightness when you really dig in.
Another possibility would be Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, especially if you want even more brightness. They're an interesting concoction…brighter than flats, but warmer than rounds. It's like they live in this interesting "limbo" in-between.
My latest GAS attack has made me an Aerodyne owner. A 2007/8 AJB/LH in Dolphin Grey.
Should arrive in a few days. Happier than a pig -n- poop. My first Fender... Kind of a Musician milestone for me.

Received my 'new to me' Aerodyne today! Pleased as punch I am, I am.
The YEAR of this bass is still a question to me. It was listed as a 1995. When I ran
the Serial Number, it said 2007/8... This is kinda moot to me, considering the excellent
condition the bass is in. So I'll say this.... The Serial Number has "MADE IN JAPAN",
and the Serial number starts with a "T"... These criteria make it either/or. Maybe someone
with more resources can tell me. Whatever year it is I'm pretty happy. I think it's a personally think it's a 94/95, as was stated by the seller.
Onto the bass itself! It needs a set-up, action is way too low. I'll dial that in tomorrow.
Neck is straight, Truss rod moves, which is a good thing, because that needs adjusting too.
Here's some pics I took real quick:
Very nice guitar. Normal wear scratches on the pick guard, and controls, a tiny blemish
on the back, smack dab in the middle, but otherwise a sweet left-handed PJ. I've been
wanting one for a while now... Jackpot!
Looking forward to giving it a good cleaning, a proper set-up, and many hours of play!
