I finally gathered my rig.

CIJ Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass (old candy apple red)
Korg DT-10
Ibanez PD7
EHX Small Stone
EHX Deluxe Memory Man
MXR 6-band EQ
Presonus Blue Tube
DBX 163X
Markbass LM II
Markbass Traveler 121H

What do you think about it ?

Wow thats the sexiest aerodyne Ive seen so far!
I have been thinkin of getting one myself.
How much was that Mark cab and head? I love those things!
We use the same picks btw! YES!!!!!!!lol.

I do love the tone of my bass but i can't help wanting to upgrade !!
Comming soon :
* Badass II
* new pups (any advice ? i've been told EMG are too shiny, thinkin' about Bartolini or Benedetti)
* black dome knobs :p
* another Markbass Traveler 121H !

What do you think about it ?

I believe I read that the BAII bridge does not fit on the Aerodyne due to the curvature of the body and that routing would be required. Make sure that its really what you want and that it would work.

For pickups, it depends on what you're after. I like the pickups that come in it, but if I changed them I would probably go for something that would retain the Fender qualities, where EMGs and Barts will change the sound of the bass pretty radically. Maybe the Dimarzio Model P/Model J combo, or Basslines Hot Stack for Jazz and Hot for P. Just my $0.02 though, you can do what you like, it IS your bass after all.

Your other mods, the knobs and the extra cab, sound like winners to me. Nice rig!!!

I hope they come out with a JJ pick up config for the Aerodyne.

The japanese Aerodynes can be found Link Removed The Aerodyne Special (AJB-110DMC) & the Aerodyne Medium (AJB-80M/DJ) have the pickups you're after.

I also saw Invalid Link Removed pop up on ebay Australia a few days back. Very nice.

Been thinking of getting an Aerodyne myself. I'm tossing up between a Japanese non-export Aerodyne or the Japanese '62 reissue jazz. Can't decide which. How is your Aerodyne treating you, knoxfrombxl?

Hey there !

First of all, thanks everyone for your cool comments ! I've been a bit busy these days so here are some answers for you folks !

RedCoatMonster, those picks rock :cool: great color, not floppy but not thick, i do not use them often anyway, i'm a funkyish style of bassist ! I love my MB gear. It's light, powerfull, i can get the tones i'm looking for and it's sexy. Well, *i* think it's sexy, not everyone is loving that bee look :smug: I've been thinking of a Traveler 102 cab to get a rock-ier tone but i took a 121 instead, i do not play only rock and, i don't know, i like the "mid solution" between those sometimes too agressive 10s and those sometimes too muddy 15s. The head is simple as hell but the VPF is the only knob i use to set my tone. A bit of hi-mid (800 Hz centered), and i'm done !

Youngspanion, i don't think (yeah, i never think !) that they come in J/J setup for export. But i *did* want a P/J setup on my bass, this is why i got her ! Slap on a P rocks so hard, rock and funk also. I needed a J to get that growly jazz tone. Anyway, i hope you'll find yours !

Double Agent, thanks for your pieces of advice ! I have to bring my bass to a luthier if i want a Badass II, i know. He repairs and do customs for both guitars and basses, but he is a bassist. I'm sure he will show me the way. I've been messing a bit with my old Ibanez Ergodyne with luthite body... OMG, it sounds awfull and has one the crapiest sustain i've ever heard. How could i play on this before ? :)

JoséPedro, my Aerodyne treats me really well. It's light, and while i was not used to this kind of necks (i come from that Ibanez Ergodyne which neck's thickness is made for children ;)), it's great to play. I have a problem at my left wrist but this is not coming from the bass. Anyway, great sustain even if there is some wood left, great tone, but you have to change those stock strings. I've haven't tried a reissue model so i cannot compare but i'm happy with mine so far. Just, as mikopita said, i hope you like fingerprints ! But i have had no problem so far concerning dings, i'm really careful with my instruments.

nubs, i've been giggin' with it only 3 times. Dings, beer, and all that is coming soon ;)

Thanks again to all of you. Cheers !

the badass 2 bridge fits perfect on the aerodyne theres a plate there that fits it like a glove, the bass is not curved in that area the badass on a aerodyne makes a huge difference in tone and action/intonation good luck trying to find a black one, the aerodyne line of basses and guitars are fantastic!! what would a aerodyne bass amp be like.........

Not entirely true. Depends on what Aerodyne you have... You might notice that this thread is 2 years old, and some of the older non-imported Aerodynes DID have problems with the Badass II. The newer Aerodynes (particularly the all black, no pickguard models, i believe) have no problems though, I put a black one on mine and it was great.

A friend of mine owns a aerodyne jazz made in japan. I gotta say the bass looks good and sounds very good. He bought his one new in a store and he could chose from a Jazz or precision and the aerodyne and he liked the aerodyne the best of the 3. Never had any problems with it so far.
