Yeah, I just ordered one at about that price - about $300-$500 more than an off-the-shelf American Standard. I'm paying for the maple neck and blond finish that have not been offered to lefties for ages. Another way to look at it is that it's $2,000 less than a custom shop bass. Yeah, the custom shop would have a nitro finish, but that's a pretty expensive finish.I would guess they aren't too worried. The American Design Experience Precision that I am about to order is clocking in at $1,749 - a little less than list for an American Standard ($1,799). An American Standard generally sells for $1,200-$1,300 in a store. Which means, honestly, I am overpaying for a standard.
To be fair, I am building it with a Jazz neck with pearl blocks and the badass-like bridge. It also will have the AVRI 58 pups in it. (The AVRI's go for $1,800-1,900 new ... so maybe they will annoy their dealers ...)
Yeah, but it's not THAT much more expensive than pricing all the parts out at Warmouth. Resale should be at worst like that of a standard, while to resell a parts bass, you have to take it apart to get the best value.Meh..... there kinda pricey for parts bin basses IMO.

Excellent point. Which is why I am torn as to how/if I personalize the nameplate. I'd like to think I'll keep this one for life. (How many times have I said that?)
Can I ask why? ^
For me, Safari wouldn't show the bass but Chrome worked fine.
felt like they were going for the Henry Ford Model T business model.
severely limited options at quite a price.
I'd much rather have a fender but the only advantage I was seeing over a Warmoth build was the name on the headstock.
some TBers seem to have a very different experience tho, and that's awesome for them.

I'd like an option for it to be built in Mexico or somewhere else s the price can be cheaper. If I wanted a $2000 bass I could just get one from custom shop.
Stop neglecting the Mexican models!!! #iprotest
When I build a Warmoth Jazz using the parts only on their site, even including wiring, I come out $3-400 ahead of the Fender site...
...
But right now there are too few options. At least the guitar players can put on gold hardware on their designs. Gimme a bit of gold and maybe some more bling and I might get tempted.
Opportunity cost .. while you may have the time, patience and maybe even skills to do that, many dont.
I can click a few buttons and I get what I ordered. I don't have to spend a couple of hours assembling and soldering.
300-400$ is not a big enough saving for me to want to fiddle with all that and I get a fender logo as a bonus.
