Fender American Thin Skin Roasted Telecaster Bass

"Thin skin roasted" sounds like a more apt description for food than for a musical instrument. I like '50s P basses as a platform, but this seems a bit of a cliche, really.

The bass is a perfectly nice Schecter Model T copy, if nothing else. :laugh:

I wish Fender didn't resort to the PJ setup whenever they feel vaguely experimental. I also don't buy the 'thin skin' schtick as I bet there is a sealer coat under the thin nitro skin. There is definitely grain filler going on there.

"The wood breathes" is plain bollocks, and we deserve better than this sort of schtick. Wood that can breathe is wood that can crack, no?

Warmoth ain't as cheap as it used to be but I'm sure you'd come in under $2k even with a hard shell case. Of course you'd lose about 70% of that if you ever tried to sell it. The Fender would maintain its value better. It just depends on what you want. I'm not buying this thing. I'm happy with my Stingray Special.

A couple of years ago I was at the Wildwood store in Pasadena Ca and they had a P bass with a roasted body and neck. This was one of the best basses I ever played but it was $5K. I got to play a lot of gigs to pay for a $5,000.00 bass. This one at $2K seems a lot more doable.
