Fender American Ultra 4 String Bass... I like it.. !!

Picked an American Ultra Bass... and I think Fender nailed this combination of woods, neck profile and finish, bass is all that I've expected and then some. The tones, play ability, and feel are great. Set the neck relief a few mm, lowered the action and tried a new set of 45-100 GHS Boomers (ML3045X), the factory strings are really good also. I've previously own'ed a few Elites, and the 10-14" neck radius feels good, I personally prefer a larger radius. Pickups are quiet, active and passive tones are better than the Elite's (in my opinion) but that's personal taste. Bass sounds great through my Bergantino setup. Overall cant say enough about this bass, sold all my basses a few years ago and I decided on a 4-string to get back to the basics, fundamental techniques, music theory and playing. This was a good investment for me.... Christmas came early..!!

Always stayed away from P basses because of my small stubby fingers, but the new D profile neck is just what the doctor ordered. Still getting used to the P Bass sound, but it is quite versatile with the active preamp and tone options within that which is a little grittier than the Jazz Bass, but it sounds and feels great so far.

New Ultra PJ ..its a great, da new 5th generation pups got da Fat vintage sound &
when U switch to passives with Master Tone it's got da undeniable Growl!
Then when you hit da Active Switch w/3 band EQ U can dial your favorite Tone!

I use to think Jazz Bass has Da best Slap Tone; ala Larry Graham,Marcus Miller etc.
But P-Bass Slap is Just As Killin'!
eg; Freddie Washington on da Patrice Rushen Song
"Forget Me Nots"

Im not 100% positive But These early Recordings of Brothers Johnson's Louis 'Thunder Thumbs' Johnson sounds Like P-Bass/Flat Wounds not MM Stingray

The Brothers Johnson - Thunder Thumbs and Lightnin' Licks

Brothers Johnson - Get The Funk Out Ma Face

We all Know What Rear pups Sounds like when played Finger/Slap Style!

but This Bass is the Ultra PJ.......its got the best of Both world
one of my Favorite Recordings of PJ is Believe it or Not on my Pop's album played by Tom Barney (Miles Davis;Sunday Nights w/Sanborn after Marcus ;Steely Dan's MD)

Ultra PJ sounds like ala Ken Smith,Alembic,MTD,MM Stingray and More.....
check it out for your self!
