Fender American ultra II precision vs Dingwall SP1(import)

Build quality would probably be very close. Would the Fender have the edge because of the ability to go active? How is the output on both? Which is the most comfortable? Let's go with 4 string because one will most definitely have the edge on 5 strings.

Dingwall ALL Day.
I own (4) SP1's. I used to play American Fenders, Laklands and Spector Euros.

1. The fit and finish of the SP1 is Amazing. Out of the 4 I own they were all perfect from the factory.

2. The pickups are passive but almost as hot as my active Spectors Euros.

3. The neck is comfortable and fast playing with the ability to get super low action.

4. The 4 way rotary pickup selector allows for P solo, J solo or PJ in either series or parallel.

5. All 4 of my Dingwall are under 8lbs.

All of my regular sound engineers have said it is the best sounding bass I own.

Overseas. They are that good.
They are manufactured in Indonesia then finishing touches done in Canada.
The Laklands Skylines are done in Indonesia as well and are far better than the U.S. Fenders as well.

Why not consider to own both yourself , AVri II 60/50P and Ding SP1 , case close.

I played a friends Dingwall SP1 and it was very nice but I wouldn't give up my Ultra ii P bass for it. Just my opinion. I like my Fenders

I own a (Chinese) Dingwall Nashville Combustion 6 string and a Fender USA Jazz Bass V Deluxe. I love them both. The Dingwall is absolutely fantastic and after 35 years brought a new excitement to play, it's that good. But, the only thing is I love playing slap too, and the Dingwall just feels too different for slapping for me. If I didn't slap, I'd probably only play my Dingwall 95% of the time.

That's a good question. I guess the biggest thing is how low the action is. Some people may have less or no problem slapping on the Dingwall, but I need a little space to dig in under the strings when I pop. With the banjo frets the Dingwall has the lowest action of any Bass I've ever played. I think the multi scale also played a role. It's a little hard to put a finger on.
