The fretboard dots look all browned-out also. Maybe it's just the lighting. Could be someone used something really nasty to "treat" the fretboard and it leached into the dot material.

Google search led me here. I have a American Vintage II precision as well. I'm a professional bass player and I've NEVER owned a bass with such terribly marked fret markers!

You literally can't see them on stage and I end up using it as a backup.

I'm assuming this person marked them like that because from the factory they are basically non existent. A quick glance down for positioning is almost impossible. I'm looking for a fix as well.

Long story: this was most definitely intentional because you cannot see these markers even in good light. They blend right in.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why they did it. But they did a really crappy job.

I have one of these Vintage II 1960 P Basses, and the side fret markers are the only rub I have with it.. otherwise its a great feeling, sounding, and looking Bass. I also have an all original 1966 P that I struggle to see the side fret markers when in stage lights...

I have a couple of (rather nice) basses that have camouflaged side markers. I got sick of going off into jazz in the middle of rock songs because I couldn't see where I was jumping to on an ill-lit stage, so here's my solution:

These things are sparkly/reflective and if there's any ambient light at all they almost seem to glow.
