Fender av jazz 62' VS as jazz 08+'

Hi! I'm new here.

I'm interested in buying a fender bass, but I couldn't choose between two: american vintage jazz 62 reissue and american standard jazz after 08.

So far, I found out that AV62jazz
Pros:"vintage" sound, muters, pup and bridge covers included, nitro finish, fast neck
Cons:vintage trussrods(twisting problem)

For as jazz:
Pros:upgraded bridge, tuning knobs, cheaper price(than 62ri), stronger trussrods
Cons:don't really know

List above was what I found out through surfing internet. The nearest guitar shop is very small and it doesn't have either of them so I can't really try them out. So far, I like the sound of the 62ri better than the std jazz. However, I was a lot of people freakin' out about its neck and setting problem. I don't think I could deal with regular trussrod work and stuff.
Dear TBers, please give me opinions or recommendations for me.

I was on the same boat some years ago regarding a Precision. After going to a bunch of different stores, I finally got my hands on a AV '62 Precision. The fretboard's curve was way too much for me. I don't know if it's the same for the Jazzes, but it was enough to turn me off completely.

I also read on here that the stacked knobs aren't all that great. I don't remember why though (I think they were noisy? someone will probably fill you in on this).

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Fender American Standard, but the neck on the AV aren't for everyone, especially for those who didn't grow up playing vintage basses.

You can purchase the covers and mutes, and change the pups for a more 'vintage' sound and look later on if you go with the AM Standard.

Also, keep in mind that the amp is a big player when it comes to tone...

Either way, you should definitely try both before purchasing.

They use the same single action compression truss rod. The 08+ has graphite rods in the neck, but I think that changes the tone for the worse (IMO), and it's certainly not necessary to get a stable neck -- just ask Ernie Ball about that! Also, the 08+ bridge is not upgraded, it merely has a thicker backplate which is different but not necessary better.

I personally went with the 62RI more on looks, but the tone is great too. But I've liked the new AS Jazzes I've played too and own a AS P-fiver that I really like. I think the advantage of the AS is the easy adjust truss rod. Thankfully my RI Jazz neck never moves no matter what strings I put on.

A major difference in the P Basses you saw vs the J basses in question:
The 62RI P has a 1-3/4" nut width, while the AS P has a 1-5/8. So yeah big difference in feel aside from the board radius.

The J's will both have the same nut width.
No, nothing wrong with the stack knobs, they're not noisy.
Cant go wrong with either model really.

call me frugal ... OK, cheap ... but if you like them the same, and dont get a chance to play it first, its just a crapshoot anyhow, as you will find good and better in both lines ... buy the one that you can get the best deal on, from the most reputable seller with good or better feedback and you should get a straight scoop on the bass ... buy used for sure, and try to stay below what you have max to spend, in case you have to have some set-up type stuff done, if you cant do it yourself ... also, can I ask why you are limiting your selection to the 08+ American Standards ?? ... I have owned/seen some very nice 2000-2007 American Series basses, as well as some mid to late 90's American Standards and they are a ton of them on the market right now ... JMHO, but lots to choose from, and if there is anyway to play a few, I personally would opt for something I could try and hears calling my name than something unknown based upon others reviews and wifes tales ... good luck, by the way :)

Edit to add: ... oops, forgot my manners ... welcome to talkbass, I see this is your first post ... BTW, it helps a TON when you ask for advice, to have your profile filled out, so that those rendering opinions have a little better idea of where you are at, been and going ... years ago I started telling a guy the difference between a P and a J, based upon how naive his question sounded ... then I dummied up and checked his profile ... he was in his 40's, been playing for over 20 years and had owned more basses than I had pairs of socks ... profiles help alot ... when you get a chance :)

Hey thanks for your welcome. I changed my profile haha. That story is really funny.

Well the reason I'm looking for Fender 08+ is that I played the models before that(not the old fenders) which had s1 switch. Although many people like that, I didn't like it. Also, I'm trying to buy my last bass which I will keep for the rest of my life. So I definitely wanna get a new one regardless of its price. Well I decided to get the av62' and thanks for your advice.
