Fender AVRI '63 Precision NBD soon - strings?

Hey TBers -

I just placed an order for a Fender AVRI '63 Precision (faded sonic blue) and looking for some recommendations for strings. I'm currently playing a G&L JB with Chromes (45-100) and love the feel/sound. Does anybody have any string recommendations for the new P bass when it arrives? I enjoy the sound of Dennis Coffey recordings and the Pino sound.

I have two AVRI 63 P's (and a G&L JB5 on order). I love LaBella 760 FL's on a P Bass and think they are the perfect old school string and have them on my Sonic Blue 63. On my Sunburst I just took off the awful Fender strings and put DR Sunbeams. Looking for that warm round tone without the harshness and zing of many rounds. But it really all depends on what you are wanting tone wise from that bass. I am looking for old school from my Precision's.

I have a Fender AVRI 63 strung with Fender flats and I think it sounds and feels fantastic. I've tried Chromes (really liked them as well, put my one set on my AVRI 58), La Bella flats (a little too much tension for the set up), GHS precision flats (didn't like). It's interesting how some strings just don't "work" with a bass. My La Bella Olinto just plays so well with La Bella flats but sounds terrible with Fender flats. Go figure-

Thanks for the advice guys. I am planning on playing the bass for a few weeks with the stock strings just to get a feel for the instrument. I've never tried Fender flats and might give those a shot if I decide to go the flat route.

63 pup is overwind pup, thick lo mid , tame treble.
With the Broken in labella , you nail the nice deep and thud old school vibe.
With broken in fender 9050 , you get raw growl .
With broken in Sadowsky blc label flat, it produce tight and better focus tone without too much thumb.

I dint have AVRi 63p, but I have the 63pup in my cheap Squier CV 60p.Really love it.

I love rounds on my P basses it becomes such a versatile instrument. I use Bass Boomers they give me the traditional P bass thump and with a slight twist of the tone knob I can get a growling punk sound without string noise.Congrats on your new bass they are such high quality.

Just out of curiosity, what made you choose the '63 over th '58?
The rosewood fingerboard?

I prefer the TI flats on jazz basses. Good for a P too. Better for a jazz IMO. For me I'd go Labella 760fl or Pyramid flats. I use the pyramids on my 50 classic.

Chromes are okay but take a long time for me to start liking them. The Fender flats are great when broken in. Thats what I had on my 50's classic but I started getting fine metal splinters in my plucking fingers, changed the strings no more problem. So I wouldn't buy them again.

Either way enjoy the new bass.
