I love Fenders with the natural wood grain .... any problems with the quality of the body wood, or did you get lucky? The first one I did had a great grain ... 2nd one, not so fortunate

Well, the body wood is alder and it was made of pieces edge glued. I don't care that it's not one piece...I'd still rather have it be a stained natural wood than painted.
Here's a better pic of the body wood. You can see where it's pieced together. The alder had a veneer on top and back of ash and when I was sanding I thought at first the body was plywood! I sanded the veneer off as it didn't form to the body contours anyway. This looks much better to me than the sunburst it had when I bought it. Granted it's no boutique bass with an exotic body wood.
