One wonders why he gives them his business at all if he so strongly objects to the way they do business.
How dare Fender make a profit! As a fan/player of their instruments it infuriates me that they don't sell products at a price I want to pay! I'm going to pout until prices come down, who's with me?
Only if we combine pouting with holding our breaths and stomping of our feet.
That applies for all the Gibson price complaints as well

You have $36,000 in the bank but would have had to "scrapped up the cash" for the price difference of a new MIM vs new MIA? Is the approx. $500 difference between new MIM and new MIA what makes the "average Jo" pricing out of reach? Is $500 the cut-off amount that breaks the bank?
Oh wait; it's about the compromise on the color, not the price. Right?

Tread lightly Gorn, he has 36,000 in the bank. That's only enough money to buy out the entire display stock of USA Fender bass guitars at every Guitar Center in his home state with probably enough left over to buy a used Fender Custom Shop bass. 
But I do see his point. If Fender would get their pricing more realistic he could buy out the stock in several states!
I miss the American Special. They took it out of their product range JUST as I was starting to save towards one.
MIM Precisions fluctuate in price quite dramatically here in Europe. Sometimes you'll pick one up for £450 and others you won't see any cheaper than £520.

Speaking of which, here's three actual basses I own that were all bought new...
They are lined up in order from left to right as least expensive to most expensive. They are also lined up in height from good sounding (lower) to best sounding (higher).
Note to OP - if you don't like Fender USA pricing - don't buy one! There's plenty of great options out there inside and outside the Fender camp that can fit just about any budget.
BTW - that's a 2012 Squier Affinity Jazz5 modded to a '62 jazz tribute, and a bone stock 2013 Gibson EB5, and a 2005 Fender American Deluxe Jazz5 Ash modded with classic Bart's an East deluxe preamp and black pearl guard.

All I asked was why prices are so high. Higher then they have to be. Clearly people here have a problem with that simple question. Rather then answer it it became a defend Fender against the force of social change or whatever this thread has become.
Jackson's are a far better value that is for sure. I have a hunch the prices of Fenders didn't budge after the 2008 crash.

As has been made abundantly clear in this thread and every other price-bash thread (for any manufacturer), things that are selling are not over-priced. In fact, they are either appropriately priced or under-priced which is contributing to their sales. In the case of Fender, they are the benchmark for pricing that every other manufacturer compares to, they must be doing some good work on setting their prices.
And I have posted info that says that may not be true but you are most welcome to your own view points. What I think is silly is the "Stepford wives" like Mantra about the prices being great and competitive. and the insinuation anyone is out of line for asking about them.
What info was this, exactly? Did you provide data on Fender's profit-per-MIA instrument? Data comparing their prices for MIA instruments to those of their competitors?
I posted among other information a web site selling raw kits to construct. Prices under 200 dollars. My points was the costs of the guitar are marked up drastically while they take advantage of among the lowest labor market in the nation. I never bothered to post the profit margins of Fender as my point in this thread was not to slag Fender for making money just asking why they don't want to sell more then they do.
Ever see a sale go on at a store, that's why stuff starts to sell because prices are lower. Lower prices = more sales. It's elementary.
Fender as people go out of their way to inform me as IF I DID NOT KNOW, as if I was born yesterday but I promise you I was not and no one's telling ME anything I don't already know here that Fender is in it to make money.... I just want to know why they are not also interested in putting their American basses in the hands of American bass players and not just the pros.
