Fender Bass prices???

To be fair to the OP, mass produced guitars / basses are pretty overpriced. However, Fender is one of the best companies when it comes to cost and quality. Why not go after Lakland, a company that sells Indonesian basses for as much as US Fenders? Or Gibson, the worst price offender ever imo. Or like...any boutique maker. Obviously plenty of people are buying American Standards, and most are likely not pro.

Plenty of people with money are fine playing non-American instruments...

That was one of my points. They are mass pro ducted assembly line guitars that are priced at prices of my buddy's custom shop about 8 years ago and inflation can't account for the prices now in that short amount of time. They are just over priced.

Looks to me like you have enough "inside" information on your buddy's business to start a thread about his business practices but not enough to start one about Fender's actions. Just because your "buddy" has the scruples of a crook doesn't mean everybody does. Likewise, if I were you I'd be questioning my ongoing "buddy" status with someone that uses his line of thinking when dealing with others - but that's just me.

You know just because you are butthurt and don't like me does not justify calling someone you don't even know a crook. Maybe you were hoping to make me mad with that comment on my buddy but all you have done is show that you don't have any class.

Next time just attack me not someone who's not even here to defend themselves.

Some of the comments here are way out of line. All I did was ask a question. I had no idea this thread has been done before it should not matter. A simple link to one such thread already done could and probably should have been the only post here. I don't always know what's posted her I read a fraction of the posts after all I do have some practice to attend to. Some of you have a lot of spare time.

Just called Fender and they don't give out that info. Maybe you can tell us what an entry level production employee makes.

The accounting questions I asked you are found in their IRS Form S1 statement filings. Found here are the latest from 2012, but FMIC will mail you the most recent ones:

Don't build outhouses and then get mad when people **** in them.

If you don't like the thread just move on to another. Sorry I expect to deal with adults and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. As much as some of you try no one is going to make me "mad" here.

I can participate in any thread I choose, as can anyone else. And, you are dealing with adults. That's why this thread isn't going as you planned.

Well, you ARE misinformed.

But, I've noticed people on here treat bass manufacturers like gods that can do no wrong. If you criticize any of them, even for fair reasons, people will attack you. It's most likely because people who own a certain brand find any attack on the builder to be an indirect attack on them and their life choices. Everyone will come at you and say "PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINIONS *******." Of course, ironically they are excluding you from being able to have an opinion.

People fail to realize these companies are not their friends. They are so willing to give the rich their money, but then when those who have less are selling used basses, they get low-balled. There was a psychological study that showed people would rather give to those above than those below, because they think they are destined to be at that higher position one day. Hint: that's not how it works.

Even now I have people trying to low ball on things that are already way too cheap. I'll show them my actual cost and they still demand 20% lower. Yet if they wanted a new bass they would go buy it from a big box store for twice as much without thinking about offering less. Despite what Mitt Romney thinks, corporations are not people and they are not your friends.

There is no hole here. Are you aware of the closing stores and mall all around the country? Fenders prices are un sustainable. I am sure you are also aware of their Profit margins.

People will attack me? Big woop let em attack. It's really no skin off my teeth.

OK.

Explain the relation between the closure of "stores" (define that as well; what kind of stores?). Also, explain why a mall (which holds many stores of various types) has any bearing on Fender as a company.

Then, explain why Fender's prices are "un sustainable" <sic> in light of positive cash flow and continuing positive profitablility.

I can't wait to hear this.

To put things in perspective, a lot of people get offended when I tell them I'm gluten-free. "What...how could you not eat wheat? Just eat a sandwich come on it's no big deal." People don't like seeing others do things differently, because it makes them feel insecure.

I think you are getting ahead of yourself here. I said they were "un sustainable". That means the current sustained cash-flow will come to an end not now but in the future at some time.

Pay attention to the words used and make sure you have a clear understanding of them.
