Fender Bass prices???

Did he answer and I didn't see it? He says he did, but alas, I remain ignorant of the correct and reasonable price that would enable average Joes to own at least two.
Nobody should be complaining about the prices for new instruments when there are so many great used ones for way less money. Buying new = literally throwing away money.
That's an opinion I share, but it's just an opinion. Some people want new instruments and are willing to spend. It's a waste of money for you or me, but not someone who wants to buy new.

Don't be silly, I always encourage buying new (and expensive instruments) especially to beginners.
I like to scoop up the deals once they quit.
Right, but their desire for new (in a lot of cases) is irrational because the same or better can be had for much less money. It's especially bad for people who buy "new" from Guitar Center...
I love how the Fodera's on here and Reverb are piling up. Always thought it was BS how most other basses would take a drastic price hit when used, but not if they have a butterfly on the headstock!
Nope, he never gave a specific number. It's either an elaborate troll or he simply refuses to be open-minded about the whole thing.
I'll bite. No idea what they actually sell for but I think a fair price for a brand new American Standard Jazz would be something in the neighborhood of $1399.99. Any more than that would makes Fender greedy jerks, any less would be practically GIVING them away.

If $1349 is too much for one and the OP would like to buy many I am guessing OP thinks they should be in the $800 range.

I think that's what he thought when he didn't understand the difference between the American Standard and American Special, which does cost $800. The differences were explained, so thinking it should cost $800 isn't really on the table any more. What then? $1000? $1200? Is $1000 inexpensive enough for the average Joe to own one?
You can get a P for $1100 if you try. I did. I think that is what they are worth. To me. That price covers Fender, Sam Ash and your sales person.
I've found some pretty good "new" deals at GC. You just have to look real hard. My last new purchase from them was a NOS Gibson that they did a blowout price on and let me use a discount coupon on to boot. Ended up paying about the same price as a nice used one.

Whatever happened to "used" being cheaper than "new"? It's practically impossible to find a used American Standard for cheaper than what new ones go for. Add a maple fretboard, and new looks like the cheaper option. Sure, you can save $400 by getting a used one, but with the slim pickings, is it really going to be worth the compromise?
If the OP wants a cheaper Fender, they offer basses in every price range. They really got it covered.

I didn't make as good of a deal as you, but my 2012 Am Stnd P-5 was listed at $1,349.00 at Sam Ash. I called them up and asked what their bottom line is and they said $1,150.00.
That was in Feb 2013. It's been my main bass since.
Didn't they recently discontinue Fender Japan,many models of their line.AND got to direct sales?

lol. I can't bring myself to make the obvious comment.
Fender U.S. prices are in line with prices for other vendor's U.S. models, when you can find a
company who still makes instruments in the U.S. Any other conclusion is simply wrong.
Whether Fender pricing represents good value is an entirely different matter and can only be
assessed by the individual.
I personally don't think Fender MIA stuff is worth the extra cost, but I don't think the prices
are out of line.
I really don't care about their higher priced basses since I got a pretty good bargain on what I think is the bass they must've made with me in mind.
No need for me to ever consider another Fender!
By the way, I bought new from Guitar Center and judging from quite a few other board members, this is an amazing Fender bass for a very reasonable price. There's been more talk about how good this bass is and other people here going out and buying one than any other bass I can think of in recent memory.
