This particular photo isn’t mine, but I have a bass that looks identical: A ‘50s Classic P with both covers and a tugbar added. Personally, I’m not a fan of the way which covers impede string access while playing, but this bass looks so darned cool with covers that I’ve learned to play around them.

Unfortunately, I mounted the bridge cover incorrectly, it's riding up on the back end of the bridge causing a gap at the back of the cover. I'll fix it some day

I've never been a huge Fender fan... that is until recently!! So, I'm learning about them at this juncture outside of the few that I own. I've always loved the way the covers look. What purpose do they serve though? Just an anchor point for fingering or what?? Thanks!!

I think at one time one of the covers had a foam piece to mute the string and now they're just for looks

Here's my RW, with covers added. I do stuff some foam in the bridge cover sometimes for a mute. It gets a 1950s or early 1960s thump when you do that.
