Have you guys seen this one review of the Bassman Neo 410 cab on MF?
"Nice cabs but for the money not worth it. Both the 4x10 and 1x15 sound great at lower volumns but whe you turn up the volumn a strange buzzing sound comes from either the speakers and/or the grill cloth. Had them both in the shop and the techs tried some buffering material under the grill cloth which helped a bit but did not stop the sound. For the money I paid for these cabs they should not be making any noises at all. I'm trading these in PRONTO because they are basically useless unless you're playing at very low volumns."
Can anybody speak to this issue? I'm looking into replacing my Berg HS410 with a Neo 410. I know I'm going to be sacrificing some sound quality, but the lighter weight and the way it'll look beneath my 100t is enough to make it worth it for me. But not if this review has a lot of truth to it.
Thanks for the help!
I think if you'll look over this thread and part 1 you'll find a lot of us here that have the 410 Neo and have positive comments about it. I've had mine since first of May 2012, and with the 100T I consider it to be the best rig I've ever had, and that covers well over 40 years of experience. The sound is tight and articulate. It has a vintage vibe but depending on where you set the tweeter volume it can be as modern sounding as you please. There are certainly no rattles or buzzes coming from it, and I play loud and proud. The only similar thing I've heard I believe came from Tim1, who started this thread. I believe his 610 Neo developed a buzz, and he discovered it was a wire that had slipped down and was resting on the back of the cone of one of the speakers. But again mine is now a year and three months old, 60+ gigs plus countless rehearsals, and no mechanical noises at all.
My previous rig was a pair of Hartke 410XL's, and I way prefer the single 410 Neo to that rig. And I am still shocked every time I pick the cab up - I can't believe how light it is, and that is definitely a plus for me. The "review" you cite is only the second review I've heard of that had anything negative to say about this cab. The first one was early on - well over a year ago - and sounded completely bogus to me. As I recall I'm not sure the guy even said he listened to it; he apparently could tell that it wasn't a good cab by taking it apart and looking it, and of course the speakers were way too light to be any good (?!?).
I went out on a limb and bought my 410 Neo, like the 100T, without ever hearing one - just rolled the dice. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you know you have a full-refund return option. Just because I and others here love the cab doesn't mean it's right for you. The sound of the cab is a very subjective thing, and only your ears can determine if it's the sound you want or not, regardless of what positive or negative reviews say.
The only problem I have with the 410 Neo is that it looks so awesome I'm constantly trying to find an excuse to buy a second one so I can have a stack or a side-by-side, but the one has handled any stage I've played on, ranging from small bars to large outdoor stages with full FOH.
