Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

There is nothing I see in the manual that indicates specifically whether the 20 seconds is from when you take it off standby or not. It tells you to let it warm up for at least 1 minute before turning it off of standby. Mine will blink left to right forever on standby - then when I take it off of standby they all turn solid green within 20 seconds.

Like you, I was expecting them to blink left to right while warming up on standby, then eventually turn all green - BEFORE I took it out of standby mode. Manual is vague on this, hence my call to Fender.

Can other 100T owners please comment?

Mine will blink for about 20-30 seconds in standby and then go steady green- that is when it take it out if standby. So it doesn't sound correct to me.

I can't wait until it's working!

My 100T has been working great since being fixed ( I have posted extensively about this in this thread). Over a month, run hard for weekly practices ( I mean HARD… Awesome power tube gnarly spittin' and growling tone that sits beautifully in the band mix, also cleans up beautifully when I mellow on the dynamics..Aren't tubes wonderful). That said, I would be most pleased if this continues. The tone is to die for, I optimistically hope that the ' lights all stay green' ands this love affair continues:bassist:.

p.s. When I turn on for a minute or two, the bias lights shift left to right and then, with standby disengage, stay all green within 20 or so seconds. That's great I think..;)

After maybe a total of 8 hour play since I picked it up it broke down - again. 1a red and 1b orange. Same as before.

I am lost for words.

(It seems to work as normal on 25 watts instead of 100 watt, for now.)

Sorry to hear they Electrophonic. I just picked my repaired unit Friday night and have played it for about 5 hours so far. Fender provided a new set of JJ's and they also found a defective tube fuse for the V2 output tubes. Working so far.

Thanks. One trick was to go from 100 watts when 1a was red and 1b orange to 25 watts. Then all four got solid green again. I was then able to switch back to 100 watts and all four stayed solid green here too. Weird. This worked four times in a row now with a power switch off and cooling in between. I will keep an eye on that!

I bought a 100t and a 610 neo cab on March 3rd and brought it straight to practice. I plugged it in and right away the bias lights would not stop blinking green in standby mode. When I switched it on they stayed green so I used it for a few songs. When I tried it in 25 watt mode the bias lights went all orange and the tubes got brighter and smelled like they were burning. I turned it off and brought it in for repair where I bought it (an authorized Fender repair shop).

*Sigh*

So now they are waiting for the parts and I'm using the only head that has never given me any problems, an Acoustic b600h.

The thing is though, when I was using the 100t the sound that came out of that rig almost brought tears to my eyes. It sounded that good.

How long should it take to get the parts? It's been 2 weeks and we have some pretty big gigs coming up.

Congratulations on your new rig!

I definitely agree that the sounds from this amp can almost bring tears to my eyes. It is fantastic! I've tried mine with two Neo 410s too and it's a wonderful wall of sound!

I am sure they will sort the issues in your amp. Then you'll have a tone to die for.

I've had an email from Fender to clear this up:

1) Warm up in standby for at least a minute
2) WAIT in power mode (out of standby) for yet another minute to let the automatic bias adjust the bias properly. Important! Then play.
3) EVERY time you go out of standby (from start-up or pause) wait roughly one minute before playing. This is because it needs to adjust the bias properly first.

The manual is not so spesific as this one, but I follow Fender's advice. It would be very interesting to know if others with these issues notice any difference when following these steps correctly.

Electrophonic,

What is the status of your 100T? Are you returning it once again for repair or is the red/orange issue ( 1a and 1b) resolved? Going from 25 watt mode to 100 watt mode can't, in my mind, be a realistic long term plan for stable tube operation.. Feel for you for sure. Keep us posted please.

Marc

Thanks!

We'll wait and see. I had one session today for about an hour when it worked as it is supposed to. Then I had another session this evening for about 50 mins. During the last song the issue came back. It makes no sense to me why this happens. I had a two and a half hour long session on Friday where it was flawless, then on Sunday the issue happened afte maybe 10 minutes. I've been wondering if there is a heating issue that causes the problems, but that makes no sense either. Other than I have never seen the fan kicked in.

I love the amp, though!

I would be expecting a new amp to be honest. Re the flashing lights, I am pretty sure that my 100T lights stopped flashing after the first turn on phase, whether or not I was in standby. The advice about waiting a minute when turning out of standby and into play mode (while the lights stop flashing) certainly applies to my Super Bassman 300, but I do not think it applied to my 100T at all. The Super Bassman and 100T bias circuits work slightly differently - Tom Bowlus has posted about this.

Hi Tim
This appears to be new direction that Fender is giving for startup on the 100T. I received an email telling me the same thing that Electrophonic was told after my recent service(2nd time). Working ok so far.

This is what I have been doing on my own since I bought it. If left in standby mine will just blink left to right indefinitely (I've waited like 30 minutes). I let it warm up in standby for at least one minute. Then I take it out of standby and observe the lights. They kind of alternately blink as the bias adjusts, then they go all green. That is when I start playing.

Have any 100T owners tried changing the power tubes to say KT88s or 6550s? I'm wondering if power tubes similar to the 6L6 can simply be dropped in and automatically biased by the amp.

I finally played through the 100T at Guitar Center, and I'm a convert. The thing is, I probably can't get both the head and cab at the moment (I played through the 4x10, which sounded amazing). My current cab setup is two Bergantino CN112s. Do you think this would be a decent match until I can get the matching cab?

I think that would sound awesome.
