Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

ok, I done did it. I found an Open Box (new?) 100T at one of my local Guitar Centers, and I went ahead and paid for it. .... I currently have (2) 410 Neos, so for now I'm set. ... ... Can't wait to go pick it up!

I would expect it will still have the 5 year warranty. The auto-bias issue kind of worries me. I guess since I don't really play out, who cares? As long as it's not repaired on my dime.

Going to sound glorious with my Squier VPM5, CVJ5, and RWJ basses!

"Sounds" awesome, ted! Score!

But, sorry, the v.2 Update installed,. Also, you might wanna check with GC that "Open Box" doesn't really mean "Used", which might effectively block any warranty! When you go to register your "new" Fender purchase you might want to clarify Fender's position on your specific item, to be certain, perhaps by contacting Fender Customer Service. ;)

And, for the Auto-Bias issue, you should check to see if it has the v.2 Update installed, or not. If not, that's something else you may want to talk to Customer Service about.

I hope this helps, and sincerely wish you the best with your Bassman. :woot:

Well, hopefully 2 years is enough time for any gremlins to come out! Thanks for the info!

Hello Bassmen! I have the opportunity to grab a Fender 100T with a cab for a really good price (like 800 bucks). However, I've noticed this model in general has some issues with the Auto-Bias. I'm wondering if every amp that is lacking the V2 Auto Bias update is expected to fail at some point? Is this a modification that any Fender Authorized Service can do? Or do I have to expect to ship the head to Fender somewhere down the road? I'm planning on trying the amp before buying and I kinda expect that an amp this old (I think it's a 2015 model) should've failed already. What do you guys think? Any additional comments or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My regular tech is an authorised Fender repairer and he did the Bias update on my Super Bassman. He had no trouble getting the V2 module or installing it so I don't see why it would need to go in to Fender.
Probably wouldn't hurt to download the manual and get your head around what the bias indicator lights do before you go to test drive it. Basically a full row of non-blinking green lights is what you want to see. Watch the lights when you take it out of standby, the should stop blinking within about 30 seconds. Any orange lights indicate a tube drifting away from spec and red means that tube needs replacing.

I'm a joke my fellow bass players... yesterday I gigged the 100T for the first time. I had PA support so it only mattered if I heard myself on the stage. I was struggling with volume a little, the amp was sounding great but I know I was pushing it. Long story short, when I'm packing my things up I noticed the amp was on the 25-watt mode. Well, now I know I need to check that switch and not be a rookie 100T player. :banghead:

Well, Chris, it's a good thing you didn't find that switch and flip it in the middle of the gig. Coulda blown the PA!

According to the manual the XLR "POST" signal level, which is taken at the power amplifier output, is automatically turned up or down to compensate for which Output Power mode (100/25/Silent Record) is selected resulting in the same XLR signal level for all three modes. The XLR "PRE" signal is likewise unaffected by the selected Output Power mode.

You're absolutely right, daddy-o. I see it now in the manual. Good to know the Bassman has got your back like that.

It's been a hot minute since I broke out the 100T. Took some time to run through the Darkglass amps and cabs, then rounded through Orange stuff and finally traded a couple cabs for the Bassman 410 Neo ( I used to own it but the DG stuff came in so I sold it)
Anyway, I got my Fender 100T rig back together and man o man it's what I have been missing. Such a great combo.

Any of y'all still alive out there? Me and my 100T are still rocking steady. This past Sunday my band headlined the Ft. Worth Blues Festival, and the 100T totally blew up the outdoor stage! Nothing like the sound of this thing really opened up.
Just realized it's now 11 years and after getting the auto-bias board replaced in the first 6 months this baby's given me not a moment's problem.
