The Mustang was a VERY popular beginning Bass when I was young and is still very popular with smaller individuals or people who just like a smaller instrument. I happen to know two kids who started on them (one was female) and they kept them as apparently they loved the way they felt. Unlike the Jaguar, originals are not too expensive & because they were considered a young person's Bass, they were made in moderate number I've been told. There would be a modern mfg too....but if you're looking for a oldy - I think their are affordable & out there. It was too long ago for me to comment on their sound; but I didn't have an unfavorable impression: that would have stayed with me.

I've heard of those, never seen them. You know, my guitarcenter only carries those crappy "Lakland" and "Fodera" brands. I keep waiting for them to get a genuine "Fender".
Really? No GC I've ever been to carries Lakland or Fodera or any other bass that's over $2500.
What's going on there?

OP, can you be more specific with your questions(s)? Your initial post was so broad that it's difficult to respond in any meaningful way.
Are you looking for comments on certain aspects of those instruments? Looking for someone who has played/owned all three? Looking for a good recommendation of one of these for a certain style of playing or certain style of music? Are you comparing a short-scale (the Mustang) with the more traditional scale-length (the Jazz Basses)?
TB is a great forum with lots of well-informed folks willing to help. If you're not getting the sorts of answers you want, try revisiting the question you asked.
Yeah, but... any search on even Google would likely bring up about 20 Talkbass.com threads, current *and* archived.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed by now, since you've been a member of TB for even longer than me, but this is honestly common behaviour for this site. You kind of get over it though because there is actually quite a bit of great information available on this site and it really is full of helpful and knowledgeable people.
But I have noticed that the way you word a post can often affect the kind of replies you get. TB members are very...particular about how you ask a question.
Also, anytime anyone asks a question on here more than once, they tend to respond with "do a search". Yes, it's irritating, but at the same time, your really has often already been answered in an earlier thread. That's why I always do a search first before asking a question, then, if I haven't found any relevant results, I post.
Also, please don't think you know anything about me based on that one post. I would be more than willing to help you out, but I haven't played any of the basses listed in your OP, I'm sorry.

On a serious note, I went into the local Guitar Center for the first time about a week ago and asked if they had a Fender Jazz V because I wanted to try one....they said no
They had a Squier V but no actual Fender.I know the smaller, independent store (they have 3 locations) a few miles away has a Jazz V and they're half the size of GC.
Although there are many differences between those basses mentioned, They are the ones that I was interested in, So I guess I was looking for someone who had owned one or maybe still has one and how they compare it to others or how they like it.. I guess my question was kind of vague but most of the time people will just jump in and tell their story about one of the basses I mentioned, and to me thats like getting a hands on review.. thats all.. If I knew there was going to be this much confusion over this believe me I wouldn't have bothered.. Its not worth it.. somebody delete the post.. No worries I got what I needed for info >>
My take:
Mustang RI: Had one briefly. Its got a glossy neck which I found to stick to my hand. I've no problem playing short scale but since my hand would catch on the neck, I felt like I was always fighting it. I also don't like the stock pickup. I replaced mine with a Rio Grande I think. I'd look into some bands that actually used one if you're going to make this your main bass. You can also get a golden oldie for not much more than a new one.
Highway Jazz: Satin neck which is nice. I don't like the finish on the bodies. Its a thin layer of nitro and then a mile of poly underneath. They're all satin finishes on the body (they're that much cheaper to do) I also abhor the grease bucket tone circuit but thats an easy fix.
60s RI Jazz: Haven't played it. I own the 70s classic though which is of similar quality. The Classic series basses have CTS pots and upgraded electronics and (I think) hardware. I really liked the neck on my jazz but the truss rod broke. I threw out the bridge too because it was a hunk of junk that'd keep slamming the E string flush with the fretboard.
I know it wasn't listed but I'd seriously consider the Roadworn basses. They're pretty cheap used (about $700 here on TB) and all the ones I've played have been great. They've got the same hardware as the Fender CS I've been told. They're light weight and great sounding instruments that feel awesome. I've got enough basses but I keep considering picking one up even though I'm not a fan of relicing. If you don't like it, you can always sell it for what you paid.

@ GeneralElectric, Thanks for the info, I will look into the Roadworn Basses.. Part of my problem understanding what you guys already know is I haven't been a bassist long, Im actually a drummer for about 28 Yrs. now so Bass is new to me.. there are many things that I dont quite understand yet or experiences that I haven't had because of being new..
To the OP: A wording for your question such as, "those of you who have extenseve experience on playing any of these basses" could have saved everyone a whole lot of trouble.
Really? I find that interesting based on the number of basses in your sig. But I guess that doesn't technically have anything to do with your experience.

Im not to concerned about it as long as I get my point across.. I didn't understand what the problem was with being a drummer and having a few Basses.. I dont get that one but anyway. you have fun with it.. LOL
