Hey, y'all!

My blacktop P cannot stay in tune well enough and it's driving me crazy. I do not know the tuning peg size. I found a cheap set of Hipshot HB6C 1/2 (black). Will these fit? The description says:

"1/2" STRING POST FITS 5/8" HEADSTOCK HOLES."

I don't quite know what that is. Is what I posted about standard?

Put simply, Blacktop P's and J's are Fender-modified MIM's. As far as Hipshot products go, they'll match up with pretty much anything geared for Mexican-made Fenders. That would include the HB7 and HB6-½" tuners, as well as the BT7 Drop-D tuner.

Looking at how they mount, not sure I like the HB6 ultralight things. I'm assuming I'd have to drill to mount them. Those HB7s look ideal.

If it were mine, I'd go with both black, but that's only a reflection of my own tastes. Just out of curiosity, could you post a pic with the bridge pickup in white and the neck in black?

Use 500k Ohm pots, but get LINEAR taper ones, just for the two volume pots though. Leave the tone pot as it is.

Why did you end up swapping out the pots? Do you feel the OEM pots were poorer quality than what you put in?

Also, you could use 1megaohm pots to gain some brightness back perhaps?

In retrospect, there was nothing wrong with the pots that were in it, since I replaced them with ones of the same value & same taper, but I didn't solder to the pot bodies.

I also should have used 1 MegOhm pots for the volumes.

I really like the ying-yang effect of black in the bridge position and light in the neck position. The only thing I don't like about it is the white pickup cover -- ideally, it would be cream, or whatever color the bass is. (Hard to tell from the picture -- what color is it exactly?)

If it was my bass, and I couldn't find a pickup cover to match the bass body, I'd probably go with both black.

As it's only available in two colors, and it ain't black - What other color could it possibly be than White Chrome Pearl....?!

However, my art-school-training would demand that the lighter pickup be a better match with the White Chrome Pearl finish, rather than being such a stark white. The only way I can imagine one could achieve that would be to scuff the covers with a fine-grain sandpaper, then attack them with a paint (one designed for use on plastic, of course) that closely matches the body-finish.

Hard to say. @subgrave is all the way down in Brazil. I can only guess what's available in his neck of the rainforest.
