Fender Classic 60's Jazz Bass....Pics

The bass on the right is a 2001 60's classic--sorry for the blurry Low-rez pics.
I really like this instrument and often Fly with it.

It is now equipped with Lindy Fralin splitcoil pickups, Sadowsky
roundwound steel strings, and a BAII bridge.

These basses are a real bargain and with the stock hardware, mine
seems to sound and feel just like my old '69 Jazz. Great vintage vibe.

I had one with Duncan Antiquity II's, Fender pickup covers, the back of the neck micromeshed and strung with Thomastik Jazz Flats. It was a great playing bass and a lot of bang for the buck. Lots of growl and fantastic vintage sound. The build quality and playability was very similar to my 1970 Jazz. If a Sadowsky wasn't my main go to bass today, I'd still be playing it.

Beautiful burst on that bass. Do they still make these? I couldn't find it on Musician's Friend.

Sweetwater.com still has them. Look in their photo gallery too, real nice looking sunburst model shown.

After playing this bass for three months in a cruise ship band, I got it de-fretted by Matt at 30th Street Guitars in NYC. The badass II is a huge improvement over the stock bridge. Decided to not change the pickups though, I decided I really like these stock MIM pickups.

There is one at my local Mom & Pops for $849 CAD, and it has an Amber Tinted neck, but I can't find another one like. I think I'll go pick it up next week

Yes, all the necks on the 60's Classic basses are tinted...

I have the road worn model in sunburst. The RW is nitro as opposed to poly so they are not quite the same instrument. I traded a beautiful Victor Bailey jazz to get mine as I was tired of the active pup and the neck constantly needed tweaking. When I played the RW in the store the neck was the best jazz neck i ever played on during my 40 years of bass. The RW is a great bass. Plays great, sounds great as is but I swapped out the pups for fender custom shop jazz...even better. I use TI flats. Best trade I ever made for what I like to hear, and once i got the neck settled w/ the strings no annoying constant truss rod adjusting....and always in tune.

I got this bass a few weeks ago, its truly amazing. I must have tried every jazz bass I could lay my hands on and compared hundreds of options and prices, But when I picked this one up and played it, It was a done deal. It also helps that it looks better in sunburst than most jazz basses.

The C shape neck, Vintage (basically smaller) frets and vintage pickups give it a very smooth tone, I think, especially with flatwound strings. I like dthe brightness of the sunburst I had seen on other ones,BUT, when i opened mine up, I found that the sunburst wasn't a bright red like the first pictures on this page, but more of a dull sunburst. Huh. But no worries. The only disappointment I can find is the bridge, Which constanly needs to be cranked back up. But just a cheap replacement bridge could fix this. All around great bass!!! GET IT!!!

These are great basses and very worth the $. I replaced the std. pickups with Duncan Antiquity II's, installed pup covers, Dunlop staplocks and Thomastik Jazz Flats. Great sound and feel.

I was on a budget, I first bought the musicman SB14, but I didn't really like it. I went to the shop and traded it for this one.

Nuff said: this bass friggin owns. I really like it. I love the sound and the versatility of the bass.

One tip: when buying a bass, go to a store and try them. Then buy the one you tried and you found sounded best. It is possible that the same basses still sound different.

Holy Zombie Threads, Batman!

Anyway, the 60's classic rules. I miss mine. The guy who got it for $550 got a killer Rock Bass, with the split-coil Fralins and BAII I added. Now that I have a RW Jazz, that itch is pretty much scratched, but I wonder about those CS 60's pickups.

How do they compare with the ones on the RW and the 60's classic—which are the same, no?

I have one of these. Looks exactly like the photo in the first post of the thread. It's a MIM model, and I picked it up for $600. Installed chrome bridge and pickup covers. It plays great, but sometimes I feel like the pickups leave a bit to be desired. They seem a bit mid-scooped, and buzz more than I would like when I'm not playing. Anyway...I too was wondering about the stock pickups. Since this is a 60's reissue bass, I kind of assumed it would come stock with some variant of Fender 60's replica pickups. Is this not the case? How would the stock pickups compare tonally to the Fender CS 60's or Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's?

I think the Sunburst Fender Jazz in the opening pics captures the essence of the bass guitar. This is what basses are supposed to look like IMO..Perfect pics that really highlight the instrument. (don't hate on me..I do not even have a Fender!) Nice bass!

YES, yes yes, this is how a bass should look, feel and sound! Which of course is why almost all other manufacturers have tried to copy them. I have a sunburst 2010, and it is so Jaco
I have several basses, but mostly play this, my Sandberg California TT4 fretless, (which makes them look like a couple, when next to the Fender ) and a fiery fiesta red custom made Jazz Bass fretless built by my tech.
The Jazzie Klassy is one of the best sounding Fenders I've ever heard! It DOES sound like a good 62'. Or at least mine does. So she's a keeper for sure.

I just recently purchased this Classic 60's Jazz bass. All the reviews I read were very positive. It definately has a retro vibe to it. At one time I owned a 65' Jazz bass in Sunburst so I know the feel and tone it had... and I can't get over how close this bass matches that one. The pickups were changed from stock to Classic 60's. Are there any TB'ers out there that own this bass, or did own one with any opinions?


The MIM 60s basses are great basses. The only negative to the new ones is that they have that big quarter sized hole under the pick guard, so you can't play it with the pick guard off. The older models didn't have that hole. The hole is for Fender's CNC machines to hold the body in place. Sometimes new technology is not your friend! Cool bass though.

Check out the Tonerider pick ups. They sound amazing and the price is insane. There's a guy on Ebay who has them for around $70.00 with shipping. I had Ant IIs in my fretless then tried the Toneriders after a buddy kept breaking my stones and I love them.
