Fender Classic 70s Jazz Question

the Classic 70's is a wonderful instrument for the price you pay for it. But surely that freaking hole under the pickguard is a real shame. What the heck were they thinking at Fender when they designed the bass?"well let's put a little hidden hole so you can hide some mojo in there to help the groove"???
BTW am glad I have a black one with tortoise pickguard - this combination is a killer - i am not going to take out that the pickguard out anyways so I'll forget about the stupid hole!!!

For what its worth, when I removed the pickguard there was compacted sawdust underneath it. I cleaned it out.

if i were you, i would want to see what coloer bass it is and what color of pickguard.then if it does not work take it off if it works in your eyes then go for it
