Fender Custom Classic - Ash or Alder?

Does this whole Alder vs. Ash body thing REALLY Matter?

Hey BB, I have 2 Jazz basses and a nice ol' Precision. Since I got my AB, I have a hard time picking up any of them. I really try. I take them to practice or when I'm at home, on occasion I find my self thinking I'll pick up the fretless Jazz or the P. And I do pick it up. Then after about 15 minutes I realize that I just enjoy the sound and feel of my Dingwall waaaaaay more. Every time I try one of my old basses in a band setting, the others ask me to play the Dingwall.

I don't intend to sell the others, but they don't really see any play any more at all. The only thing that will change this will be when my new Z-1 finally shows up.

Well, I plan on putting the Dingwall GAS on hold only, not blowing it off forever. With the deal I can get, I just can't pass it up right now with cash-flow being a bit tight. I figure a sweet Fender Jazz wouldn't be a bad thing to have around to complement my P-Bass.

I just hope that when I finally get the cash together for the Dingwall, I don't end up blowing off all of my other basses!! But yours is a theme I hear oft-repeated among Dingwall owners. It kind of scares me!!:eek:

I went for the ash/maple combo... I have an MIA J that's alder/rosewood and I find the CC more resonant... If that's the proper word, for me it sounds better acoustically... though my ears are not that discerning.

I have the Ebony Transparent w/ Maple. Mainly chose this for 2 reasons:
1. I've never had an ash/maple bass and read/was told/etc that they are a "slapper's bass", very "zingy" and it is but it's not just for slap - very articulate finger style sound also, I feel it's better to take top end off than have to add it.

2. The color choices are nicer with ash, IMHO.

Check the classifieds, there is one for sale - Ebony Trans w/ Pau Ferro.

When I got mine last month, after 10 months (quoted 4-5 months), the store told me the wait time is now 12 months.

EDIT: HAHAHAHA, I just caught the date of this thread... started back in Feb.
