Fender Custom Shop "Club"???

Wow, what a great collection, Theo! I'd love to try a Pino one day. I'm normally not a fan of relic'd basses, but I think I'd make an exception for that one! And the '55 is a beauty--it's a shame they stopped making that model.My favourite Fender Custom Shop Bass is my Pino Palladino: absolutely the best playability and soundwise
the sweetest.
After that it's the 59 P CC cause I play Rock-music anytime anyplace anywhere!!
The jazz is totaly different: It's a Jazz..............so.........??!!
I save this one for other music.
The 55 P is a Goddess to play although it's set up with roundwounds you should play this babe with Thomastics..........o my god!!!
All of these of course are plugged in into one of my Ampeg rigs.
I haven't seen a pic online, but there's one in this month's Bass Player, with JMJ on the cover. It's a custom color, too, some sort of gray--maybe charcoal frost?

At first I was afraid it would be an elite kind of user club but make no mistake.........Fender Custom Shop users are one big family!!!
Cripula&Caca: about the skirts: I wish I could play for a whole evening with the skirts on !! There's no doubt about it: A Fender without skirts is naked.....!!!
Cripula: How do you discribe the sound on the CS P-55 with the Antq.2 pickup. I got one on my Van der End P55 but theat wood is quiet different compared with the CS 55P-bass. It's premium swamp ahs while the Van der End is Alder with a maple top.
I tried A 1/4 lbs on the CS 55 but it sounded IMO too muddy.
Too much lows and too less mids! (lots of output)

Theo - IMO the 55 sounds much better with the SDA2. I thought the factory pickup sounded somewhat weak and hollow, and the flush p/u pole pieces made it uneven. The SDA2 has raised A + D polepieces, it's more balanced, and has more balls. It's certainly not muddy. A friend lent me his real 56 to do a comparison - the A2 sounds much closer to a real '56 than the stock p/u.
It's still a fairly low output p/u, a bit hotter than stock but not too much. I think it could stand to be a little hotter yet. It's a nice upgrade if the stocker isn't doing it for you.

Similar yes, but not the same... I think the CS has more of a forearm cut in it
They're the same size, and yes the CS puts more of a generous arm and belly cut. Bute there is no size difference.
But it's just an illusion of lighter colors. Items painted in white and other light colors will always 'appear' bigger than items painted in black or very dark colors, epecially sunbursts.

Both basses have had the Fender pickups replaced with Lindy Fralin split coils, as I wanted a bit more "oomph" (and got it).
The '55 P was actually displayed at NAMM2005 in Los Angeles (so the seller informed me
) and the Lake Placid Blue '61 was made in 2002 and came to me from Japan (it's a popular colour over there). The marks on the bottom of the '61 appear to be from where the previous owner has used a stand with rubber covered arms, which have reacted with the nitro and "burned" it all off (BE WARNED, nitro fans 
)!
This week, I sold the last of my real vintage basses (a '77 StingRay and a '76 Jazz), rather than part with these two - that's how much I like CS gear!
There might even be a third one on the horizon

The FCS hasn't always been about the retro look (OK - I guess they're 20 years old now - they ARE RETRO). All 3 are all FCS (I've got two white ones!). Two of them are stamped as Custom Shop. The third is one of the very early FCS models that wasn't marked as such, but the serial numbers confirm it.

How do you adjust trusroad? Is it necessary to remove the neck to do that?

Yep. But if you loosen the strings enough you can keep them attached while doing it to lessen the pain in the arse.
