Fender Custom Shop Club

I have picked up two Custom Shop basses in the last year, both were stock models. A 2011 '64 Jazz NOS in Lake Placid Blue, and a 2021 '61 Precision Bass Relic in black. Both basses are excellent, and are by far the best examples of both kinds of guitars that I have owned.

I have been working with Make 'N Music to put the specs together for my first custom order from the FCS, and I am really excited to get the process started. He is supposed to meet with his Fender Rep and will confirm specs and a quote for the deposit. For a time line, they are estimating 12-16 months for a team build. Here are the specs:

Fender Custom Shop 1969 P-Bass Journeyman Relic – 3TSB
* All specs standard Base Model except as noted below

Maple Cap Fingerboard
Truss Rod Adjust @ Headstock with Bullet
9.5" Radius
1.650" Nut Width
BONE Nut
V-LOGO NECK PLATE
HW ‘65-70 P-Bass Pickup
HW ‘75 Jazz Bass Pickup (bridge)
Wiring: “Vintage Jazz with Concentric knobs”
B/W/B pickguard
Neck finish: Satin Urethane w/ Gloss Headstock and Fingerboard

This sounds great. Are you going for the “TV” logo?

Yes, that’s part of the reason for the ‘69 style. I had asked if they could swing the 70’s style logo, and the rep said well If that’s what you want, let’s request a ‘69 build and it’ll be standard.

that’s going to be some cool bass. Not a million miles from my ‘73 (Jazz pup excepted).

It’s so close you’d think that I copied off your NBD haha. But I didn’t. Actually I’ve been working with the rep on this for a couple weeks. Finally settled on trying to recreate as such my 2003 P Bass.

Only adding the Jazz pickup in a goal to move towards all P all the time, but still having some Jazz snap and burp on my sound when I need it.

Nice! Here’s my FCS. I’m almost tempted to switch the necks - you’ve inspired me to think about it!

I finally got a correct gold guard thanks to fellow TB'er E Buzz.

It's a Charcoal Frost CS '61 Sean Hurley that came with what might be the ugliest tort guard ever. I am very happy with the gold guard.

Thanks. Bob!!

I guess it's the background, but that bass looks purple to me. I have a Charcoal Frost Hurley with the tort guard and love love love it. Could you maybe post a pic with a different background, very curious to see that combo. Thanks!
