What's with the pole pieces on the upper 1/2 pup under the A string? Am I seeing that right, that they're sticking out of the cover by several mms?

Leo's original '57 Precision Bass had raised pole pieces on the A string, so this is a faithful recreation.

Bought a 2005, spend time and money to swap out everything bar the pickups.. and made it a better bass, imv.
Used it a lot but doesn't make my gig rosta these days.

It's interesting yours has the raised A poles. A hand wound 62 pickup is spec for the Post Modern. Was the PU swapped or was this a custom order?

It's all original . Also listed at Shop Floor Traveler, and it's not rare to found it in specs at lot's of web sites sellers.
I think they put the '57 at the end of Postmodern production (in the last year or even shorter), instead of the '62 which has been standard PU in Postmodern since they have been introduced.
Was it intentional or did they miss the '62 at that moment I don't know, but I know I like it very much. More then '62 I got in my 1979 Pbass, or other CS.
Those raised pole pieces give it a very specific sound, especially on the A string, a Bobby Vega style.

Although that particular design from '57 with the raised poles did not last long, there is something characteristic about it and I was lucky to have my piece with '57PU. It is very rare to find 57PU on the market.

I did a little research and it appears the 57 pu arrived at the introduction of the maple neck post modern. A nice pairing, IMO. A beautiful bass all around with the frost metallic and the tort guard.
