Besides the perspective issue, if a string (E especially) were that close to the edge, it'd be flopping off on every tune.

Seems like a fair price and a nice bass. And it’s an anniversary edition which can be cool. If you’re looking for a relic CS Jazz I think it’s good.
Price is good if there are no issues. I’d ask if the truss is working properly and if there are spacers on the truss nut. If not I’d pull the trigger.
It’s a fix for a maxed out truss rod to get a little more turn out of it. Fine for an existing bass to extend the life of the neck but I wouldn’t want to start out with that. The seller should list any problems with the bass, and that would be one. So if he’s not disclosing anything you’ll have grounds to return it if it has that. You won’t know until you get it.
That looks like a great deal to me, even at the asking price. I have o e similar that I certainly would not sell for that. Seller is open to offers, too. If I could only justify another...
He said the truss rod worked fine, and he had no idea what “ spacers” were. No issues according to him.
"Add to cart" sounds like your next move. Hopefully you post some pics here when you get it.

Question about the individual string mutes, on a "60 Jazz. I received them, uninstalled when I got the above bass. Does anyone use these, and are they on/off adjustable ? How do they compare with the old, bridge cover mutes ? Any comments welcome !

Ive got the chance to buy a used NOS custom shop jazz, its about 20 years old in as new condition. A crazy person bought it and literally never used it.
Or I can buy a brand new 2021/2 NOS for like £1500 more.
My question is how has the construction/quality of custom shop basses develooed over the last 20 years? Will the older model be noticeably different or has the custom shop been consistent in its building methods throughout the years?

Good question. Can’t answer it. But I’ll ask a different question. How was the bass stored? Was it temperature and humidity controlled? What is its actual condition? Is the neck straight? Can the truss rod turn? Have the pots corroded? If you have a three day inspection period it may be a good idea to line up a luthier to give it a once over.

I have a 2005. As much as I can see, that build uses a lot of standard parts. I believe the pickuos might be s bespoke CS wind but not at all exclusive. I think you can buy them off the shelf.
I dwapped out everything else, bridge, tuners and pre amp without re drills, so I can put everything back.
I think the colour scene is a CS colour and the neck is quartersawn so basically the difference from standard builds ...from say an Elite, is woods.
And I can't say there is anything great about that.
I have 4 custom builds by 3 makers, and CS is the 'worst' in terms of features and extras, or anything tangible that makes it special.
So, my opinion is that it not in anyway a significant upgrade to an Elite 2014 vintage, so I'd pay accordingly.
At best that would likely be $700 extra and thats generous for basically the CS logo and cache.
Doesn't make it a bad bass, but nothing overly special either. imo.

I believe that the CS shop 20 years ago used more individually hand built processes vs the move to team built as the production levels increased over the years. If you check the neck pocket of a 20 year old CS instrument you may find the name of one of the master builders that charge a big premium today.
