I had my eye on Thomann's '66s, I think you got the nicest of them. And since I got jealous about that nice pic, I will post the twin sister of my '64:
The story behind it: when I placed my order, while I mentioned a quartersawn maple neck the order that reached Fender didn't included the quartersawn choice. So, I contacted my order's supervisor, and he informed me that the chances to get a quartersawn neck were 50%-50%. I didn't want to take the risk, so he immediately sent Fender a new order (good job, people at Thomann!
), but without cancelling the first one! The bass above is the one from that first order - and it featured a quartersawn neck, too, in the end.

That color is so rich, and deep. Looks like you could fall into it. All my Custom Shop basses are "off the rack" as it were (I didn't custom order any of them), and, fortunately, all have quatersawn necks. I think Fender used to put 1/4's on all CS basses, but I guess that's changed.
Indeed, Candy Apple Red is one of the richest colors I have ever seen, warm and deep.
I believe all Custom Shop basses come with quartersawn maple necks if nothing else about the neck is specified; my first order mentioned a "maple neck", so I believe there was higher risk of not having a quartersawn, even though it ended up with one.

I find the quartersewn's are a lot more stable and seem to stay in tune forever. I pull out a bas that I haven't used in months, that's been in a very cold or warm room and it's only a half tone off, but it's consistant over all four strings. How is your stand working out?
All I can say is wow. Been wanting a CS 1955 P Bass and saw one in GC recently, when I (innocently) went in to look at PA gear. It was a good price - about $500 less than other CS 1955s I've seen listed. Went back to look at it, only half-hearted about the potential of ever buying it. It was amazing. Super lightweight and the neck was cozy as could be. Perfect relic. And with an unbelievable tone. Then I realize it's a Masterbuilt instrument - at less than half of list. I couldn't pass it up. A perfect compliment to my CS 59 Precision. Happy, happy camper...

True, they are crazy stable - I haven't tune my '64 for almost half a year, and it's still almost there.
I have them packaged at the moment because I keep my Jazzes in their cases to avoid the collecting dust. I will use them soon, though, after installing that nitro-safe cloth I was saying.
