:hmm: Crikey!

Tonewise (don't forget, they both have Lindy fralin pickups in now ;)), the '55 has a slightly more "natural/acoustic bass" tone and is a little twangier.

The '61 sounds (to me) exactly like the best P Basses I've heard - smooth, mid-friendly and articulate! It's like being punched hard on the ear by a fist in a velvet boxing glove :D! OK, I'm getting carried away now :(.

If I had to limit myself to only one bass from all of the (30 or so) basses that I've ever owned - it'd be this one :).

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm at all, faulknersj, but you should probably be aware that the '61 reissue isn't a "standard" production model for the Fender CS :hmm:. At least, not for Europe and America.

This is either a model that was made exclusively for the Japanese market (mine came form Japan), or it was one that someone comissioned especially. Either way, you should probably look to Ishibashi, or one of the other Japanese retailers, if you want this particular model.

Failing that, the CS '59 reissue is pretty much the exact same spec, apart form the paint options and the anodised gold pickguard - one of those would sound and feel every bit as good, IMHO :).

If you're a real fan of the Fender P Bass, I really can't see you being disappointed with one of these CS instruments. They can't sing or dance, they won't make your dinner or get you drunk, but if you treat them right - they're companions for life :D!

I have a '64 Relic Jazz Bass...purchased new in 2001. I wouldn't trade this bass for anything.

I know most of these are purchased from a retailer, but does anyone here have a bass that was designed specifically for the player who bought it, by Fender's Custom Shop? I know their Custom Shop does custom work for people, but it's in the other side of the world for me! I'ts just very hard to travel and waste money going to Australia to just order a Custom Shop.

Is there anyway it can be ordered from the U.S.?
