Fender Decals On Non-Fender Basses

As far as headstock decals go, because the headstock shape is trademarked, for me, it's an iffy question. I believe that SELLING the decals is wrong.


But they sure look cool..... don't they??

I solved my moral dilemma by having my own made for me..... Fender [like] font but my name.

That's basically what I would do. If it's already branded, like a Squier, I'll leave it that way, if it's some kind of Fender lookalike parts bass, I'll make up some kind of punny name in a Fenderish typeface for a logo. IMO, much better than pretending it's something it's not.

Since Fender doesn't offer a replacement body, or replacement neck, "And the fact that they don't offer what I wanted..." or something in your price range, you really didn't want a Fender did you? You wanted something specifically for your dream and Fender doesn't make it. So... Why put a Fender logo on it? Something to do with others seeing the name possibly?

564 threads on this topic, you have to be kidding me. It's simple. If it's not a Fender product. It shouldn't ever have a Fender logo. EVER!!! I'd love to hear what Fender would have to say about this.

Heck, Carvin doesn't even sell Carvin logos for their own bass kits because it's not put together by Carvin.

Wrong.
Most logos are applied by silksreening, as most manufactuers have done since the 80's. No one uses decals anymore (except most reissue Fenders). Obviously you have to have screenprinting machinery to do that, and for a bare wood DIY kit you have to paint/finish yourself is the reason it wouldn't have a logo.

Not saying your wrong but I was told by Carvins website administrator that that was the reason. And I don't see any reason he wouldn't tell me the truth.

Wow, I haven't logged on since before Christmas and I find that my last post caused Gort to change his name......

Some people take this stuff way too seriously....

The point I have been arguing is that Squier is Fender and therefore a Fender decal IS appropriate as a way to identify the product. Much like putting a Mazda logo on a Ford would be acceptable since the reality is that the two companies merged and are really one now.

If someone DOES put a fender logo on a cheap guitar, that's there business, and if they try to sell it, well, as in everything else in life, it's buyer beware and up to each of us to do our own homework. If your paying for a guitar and feel you should be able to rely on what the seller claims without your own verification then your dumb and I hold you in distain for expecting everyone else in the world to protect you from yourself.

Yes, because when they sell their awesome fake Fenders (as they all eventually do), they'll perform some kind of religious ceremony and make the buyer take a blood oath, swearing that he will never pass the fake off as the real deal.

No Worries there Scotch, I never sell anything.

People never want to pay what something is worth and everybody thinks it is perfectly acceptable to lowball you and insult your item until they get the price as low as they can. I have no time for cheapskates therefore nothing of mine ever goes on sale. When I buy, I look at the proce and decide if I want it at that price. no bater involved.


I am interested however why you think I meant Disdain? Do I really have to point out AGAIN, that if you know what I meant then my communication was successful, regardless of how I spelled it. This issue with the Aesthetics of how the word looks when it is written down??? that is all you..... :hmm:

Here's my two cents' worth:

I play a Squier California Series Jazz Bass. It has Fender Original Vintage pickups, Fender pick guard, Fender thumb rest, and I have replaced all the cheap wiring. It's not a stock Squier anymore but I can't convince myself it's a Fender either. I don't like blank headstocks so it still has the Squier brand on it.

If I ever buy a genuine neck with Fender logo on it then I would leave the Fender logo on, but I don't think I will because I love the neck that's on my bass now - that's why I bought it in the first place.

It sounds awesome, so who cares? If I put "Fender" on it then I would just be helping keep alive the absolute fiction that you need to spend top dollar to sound great.

(BTW my amp (old Australian made model) cost me AUD$150 + $50 graphic equalizer and sounds perfect).

The guitarist in my band plays my old lawsuit Japanese strat copy. It doesn't say "Fender" on the headstock, either, although many have told me over the 28 years I've owned it that I should put one on there and pass it off as the "real thing". Why? Anyone who judges the band by what brand instruments they play instead of the sound they make is an idiot and helps explain the state of the music industry today. (That's what happens when "art" becomes "industry"!!).

Am I too idealistic?
