Fender Deluxe Question

I just bought a Fender American Deluxe Precision Inline 5er and I was wondering what years Fender made the Inline 5 string? I think this is a 2000 model.

Plus I wanted to show her off! Hope you enjoy.

I'm going to throw a guess out there and say maybe 2004 is when they switched it, since I'm pretty sure Deluxe V basses I've seen from that year have have the 4+1 headstock.

Fender used the five inline for all of their five string basses (please correct me if I'm wrong) until relatively recently. However, they still use the five inline for the non-US Deluxe model.

Scotch, I'm in love and want to steal your bass. It's also nice to see a counterpart to my Jazz Deluxe V, which is also natural ash. Although mine has a Pau Ferro fretboard. What year is that bass?

And not that I've had a Fender bass with a 4+1 headstock, I have an L2500 and having tuners on both sides of the headstock gets confusing. It's also annoying because my bass gets out of tune rather easily when I lean it against something, or lay it on the ground.

Thanks! It's a great bass. 2001 or late 2000 build, I believe.

I too think it was 2004 when they switched over. I agree that the 5 inline looks better, but Fender did something else to the neck design when they switched to the 4+1 because, IME, the newer ones are better instruments.

I have owned four five inline MIA JD5s. The oldest was a '96 and the one was an '02 or '03. I always bought them hoping that I would find the keeper. Not one of those basses would take a set up as well as my two Fender fivers I have now that are both 4+1, a 2006 ADPV and a 2008 ASJV.

I'm guessing there is more to the change than the tuner placement, or I suppose it could be chance, but I don't think so.

Both these basses have better B strings, BY FAR, than any of the inlines had. The feel is better, and the tone is much better integrated with the other strings on the bass. The basses are more resonant and have a very different feel than any of the inlines that I owned. The two Fenders that I have now are the nicest Fender fives I have been around. IME, they are far ahead of what they were doing 10 years ago.

Yup. Very similar. Hmmm.... maybe I need a Jazz 5? Wonder if they still are available in ash?

OHH I got the same exact bass. Those natural ash deluxe are pretty rare but soooo beautiful. I'm happy to see someone having one exactly like mine :hyper:
