Fender dimension H vs HH

I have played Fender P-Deluxes for several years now and just recently picked up the Dimension Deluxe HH. Its a different beast and I will not be letting this one go. It does all the tones one could possibly want and does them really really well. The 5 way switch and 3 band EQ lets you dial them in perecisely- The P- The J-The Balls and the Snot. Growly- Honky.. whatever you want. Its like Prego-Its in there! Extremely versatile in my cover band situation- LOVE it. A little heavier than I would like but Ill suffer for the tonal variety. Ive been through ALOT of basses over the past couple years trying to find the SOUND..This bass has helped stifle the GAS. Black N Maple American Deluxe Dimension HH. Hot Hot Hot

having 2 pups with just a switch to pick 1 , the other , or both ... just doesn't work real well for me ...

there are so many more tones to be found with a Blend knob or 2 volumes .. !

my current Tele type guitar has the normal 1 vol / 1 tone / 1 3-way selector ... but , ... this guitar has a mini humbucker at the neck , and a regular humbucker at the bridge ... with both pots being push/pull coil taps ... ( plus it has piezo pickups in the bridge ) ... i feel like i'm missing timbres by not having a blend or 2 volumes .. !!

Different make & model, but the MusicMan Stingray is offered in both H and HH versions. They DO NOT sound alike. I don't care for the H version but like the HH version. There are those players that can make an H Stingray sound fantastic. I'm not that guy. I sound alot better with the HH both pickups on. Actually I prefer the inboard coils best and that goes along with the previous comment that dual singles sound better than dual humbuckers.

At the end of the day it goes back to your previous topic of hand position and technique. You never really know which Dimension is better for your style and technique till you have played both.

I might never try the HH version as long as it's not at a local music store and wouldn't risk buying something I haven't tried but thanks to the freedom I've discovered we have by changing right hand position, I've discovered a "new sound" I love with the H model

You keep saying that, when in actuality you should probably be saying that you prefer two pickups for various reasons. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t mean they are better - just different.

This reminds me of some of the opinions you see posted in a “best bass for xxxxxx” discussion. There is no such thing as a best anything.

I gigged and owned one of each in the DLX 5 configuration - I still own the HH.
The HH feels more organic/natural and unique in its tone to me that the H did. I felt like the H was more sterile -
less personality, where as the HH is certainly its own animal. I find the Stingray clone comments really unfair and a bit lazy to be honest. I also own anSR5 so did do a fair bit of direct comparison. At the end of the day its only my opinion of course.

Could you elaborate on the tonal differences between the Dimension and Stingray?

Its hard to describe tone but i will do my best - I think if you listen to the Yolanda Charles video she says something along the lines of - with some active basses you are hearing too much of the preamp whereas with the Dimension you still hear the wood - or something like that? well that sums up how I feel about the HH Dimension. it has an 18v preamp but i still hear the wood in there it somehow maintains an earthy vibe to me. The appeal of the Stingray to me is the bite of that preamp and the Hi-Fi sizzle. I love my Stingray HH because thats its thing, but I think Fender nailed that natural almost passive yet modern sound with the Dimension and thats the difference both great but different! Just MHO of course!

The H sounded a bit like an anemic Stingray to me - no personality.

LOL, what does "anemic" even mean? Same with "no personality". They're such vague yet negative sounding terms. I actually prefer the single humbucker Dimension to the HH. It has P-bass simplicity with a 3-band EQ that can boost or cut more than I need of each frequency. I've never found it to be lacking.

Once again, just my opinion - I'm pleased you are happy with your H but I found it lacking to my ears. I'm not going to debate the merits of my personal opinion with you because its only that. The reason why I got the H in the first place is because I really like the sound of the bridge PUP soloed in the HH and thought that if it was positioned more centrally in the single H it would be perfect. Sadly (to me) it didnt sound anything like I hoped it would.

I thought "amenic" and "no personality" was fairly blunt to be honest!
