Fender Dimension is Discontinued

I still love my Indonesian made Squier Dimensions. Nowadays they are my go to basses because of their specific punchy sound and the way they can 'tow' the bandmix. I must add I replaced the so-so preamp with a passive series/parallel/coil split option. Still, great basses. Big shame the entire line is history.
There’s one of these for sale locally and I haven’t moved on it as it is *not* passive. Does the mod you mentioned basically turn it into the MIM Modern Player version? How did you do the mod?

Only 6 pages so far? C'mon, let's go guys!

Add Dimension to the long list of failed instruments from Fender that were not P or J basses. Gibson has had similar experience. When everyone else in the world is making P and J basses, it's easy to see where the demand is.

I have a 1981 Gibson Victory Artist bass (dual pickups)..and the Fender dimension is nothing like it..most Fender players want the jazz or precision..and will buy american if they have the cash..the dimension is a knock off of something..just not sure what..I also have a 1999 American Fender Jazz which I have modified with Seymour Duncan quarter pounders and a Babicz bridge..the Gibson Victory Artist bass is far superior to the Fender..most people have never played one so they dont know about the ultra high quality of the instrument or how good it sounds and plays..but I certainly like the Fender..it just has that classic feel that not many instruments have..the Gibson Victory Artist is a one of a kind and I will never let it go..I play it at home only..it doesnt go out on the road..too valuable..mine is mint..and could never be replaced if stolen or damaged..it does get daily attention..and stays locked in a vault while its resting..

To digress from the Dimension for a moment...

The Gibson Victory was another Gibson I wanted to try so badly, but again, Gibson introduced it, and withdrew it before I had a chance to check one out.

One Gibson that I was in love with, was the RD Artist. There was a black one in the Sam Ash Hempstead, NY store for about a year in the late 70s. I played it every time I was there, and loved it. But, being a kid, I didn't have any money, and one day it was gone. :(

Good luck with your Victory, Blaze.

Mike

Fender has made one critical difference in their instrument business compared to Gibson. Fender, in doing their corporate brand buying, left the companies they've purchased intact. So while the Dimension seems like an attempt to grab some of the Lakland or Music Man customers, Fender doesn't really have to innovate under the Fender or Squier brands. They can make the Strats and Teles, Jazz and P-basses and be just fine. If they need a hard edged metal bass, they have Jackson for that. If they want Hot rodded Fender designs, they have Charvel for that. If you want old folksy or bluesy stuff, they own Gretsch and Guild.

I was just thinking to myself the other day, "I wonder if Fender is still making that Dimension Bass..."

*Internet search*

"Wow I guess they still are."

*Today*

"Never mind..."

They may not be making it any more, but Amazon, at least, still has some for sale if you're thinking of buying one.
