Loving this thread. Here's mine:
- 2010 Fender 60th Anniversary P neck with A string retainer, stock tuners
- Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass '70s 'soft maple' body
- EMG Geezer Butler GZR-PJ pickups and pots etc.
- Warmoth custom pickguard
- Leo Quan BadAss II bridge
- Fender 'chrome dome' P bass knobs
- Fender control plate
I wanted a Jazz body, P maple neck and PJ pups, so a custom build was my only option, considering most seem to want a J neck and P body. I was going to use a MIM alder body, but I love a bright, middy tone, so when I saw the Squier was maple, I grabbed one off Craigslist. Hardest part was routing for the P pup, as the Warmoth guard leaves the thinnest margin under the treble side. Have heard that the Reggie Hamilton guard gives a bit more room, so would go that way if I was doing it again.
It's now by far my favourite player, with a super flexible tone that can go from deep P with the neck soloed and the tone off, to Ric-like snarl with the neck down and bridge and tone maxed. The Geezer pups are a perfect match and I'd highly recommend them. The only drawback is weight, as she pushes 13 lbs. with the maple body, though I've never been bothered as long as I have a wide strap.
