I cannot lie i got lucky on this one i played one the day before i got her and the grain was relatively straight lines and i went to a closer Guitar center they handed me this didnt have much trouble getting the wallet out of my pocket as you see much worth it the finish and neck are so smooth it plays itself and it sounds great in the mix never stood out as much before

Guitar Centers website lists the FSR with a NEW price of $499.00. Isn't that the same as the old price. Also they now say a gig bag comes with it. I never got a gig bag with mine. Did any of you get a gig bag with yours?

Yes, same price as before, which is a deal for this fine instrument. MF charges $100 more IIRC. No gig bag with mine. And no setup.

Sorry to jump in on this thread as I don't own an FSR but I'm in the market for one. I was looking at the standard MIM Jazz basses at $599 but see the FSR witht he "natural" finish and tort guard which I really like for $499. I'm wondering why exactly these are $100 less. Aren't the FSR's the same as the regular MIM Jazz bases as far as electronics, factory strings, etc?

These particular FSR's are probably one of Fender's longest running in history ... if you notice on the back of the headstock, they actually are called Fender Special Editions ... anyhow, they started in the early-mid 2000's with a white pickguard on both models ... however, several years ago they started coming with the tort guards as you see them now ... they are not identical to the current ('08+) MIM Standards, as they are not using the current headstock logo, nor the tinted neck/headstock ... electronics/hdwr should be the same though ... and of course the body is ash and not alder .. I notice that the P is no longer being offered, so I think it would be reasonable to at least consider the possibility that the remaining Jazzes are being kept at the 'pre-upgrade' price to move them along and clear them out as well ...

Do you know if the strings from factory are the same as well? (odd question, I know). So the main differences are aesthetics and nothing that would affect sound/tone? Just seems odd that the price is lower.

No idea on strings, but I would imagine that they would be 7250ML 45-100's which comes stock on current MIM Standards and most everything else that comes top loaded ...
