Fender FSR Club

No reason to cancel the club. There will be new FSR's from Fender, and new owners of previous runs. The unexpected American Special FSR from Thomann in Germany is still for sale in the EU, and it's one of the nicest PJ's I've ever seen: Invalid Link Removed

Here's another picture of My Precious, a 2012 American Standard Hand Stained Ash:

That finish is gorgeous! How's the sound, etc.?

I'm not canceling the club. I'm just not handing out numbers anymore. If someone else wants to do it. Go right ahead.

I think I might have phrased that a bit wrong. I was just trying to say (to everyone) that we should keep the thread alive, numbers or not. I hope that someone would take over the numbering though...
New types of FSR's pop up from time to time, and often in unexpected places (like the recent Thomann PJ). Since most Fender FSR's are made for specific dealers they rarely appear on Fender's website, which makes it difficult to know what's available out there. In that respect this thread is very useful.
So thanks for starting the club, pica, great job :) You finally sold your FSR then?

Yes, the finish is gorgeous :) It's very thin though, so it's almost impossible to keep it from getting dings and scratches. I'm afraid of ruining the finish, so I haven't brought it to any gigs yet. But perhaps it'll look cool if it's road worn, I don't know. I've currently only used it for recordings. It's a very standard American Standard, except for the finish. But I'd like to believe that since they only made 150 of them - 50 of which are hand signed and numbered on the back of the headstock by Corona Production Manager Jeff Allen (mine being #44) - that they've picked what they thought were really good parts from the production line, and that they're especially well put together. But that is probably just wishful thinking on my part ;)
Anyway, it was completely flawless out of the box, 100% perfect in every way. I've even had the luxury of trying another one exactly like it, which I stumbled upon while visiting the Dawsons shop in Manchester, UK. That one too was just brilliant.
It's a 2012, but it doesn't have the Custom Shop pups that the American Standards got that year. Doesn't bother me, it sounds fantastic. They also made a delicious wine red version with rosewood fretboard, as well as Jazz Bass versions in both colours, 150 of each type.

Yeah, I have one of the Wine Red Jazzes (#3). Really nice bass. And for the record, I LOVE those Mahogany Stained's also. Wouldn't mind having one of each! :bassist: Here's mine, below (pics taken right after I got it used). It actually looks better now since I put some Howard's Feed & Wax on the rosewood board. That makes it look darker & richer.

Those really are sharp looking axes! And my Honeyburst has gotten a ding or 2 since I bought it, and it also has a thin finish. Doesn't bother me at all. I even had to replace the neck, as the original developed a little twist. I replaced it with a rw American Special board. Now the action is even lower than before, I like the look better, and it's my favorite bass.

Don't forget the amber hand-stained 2012 American Standard Precision and Jazz. I actually bought the P but returned it, as the finish was orangey and blotchy. The mahogany stain is much nicer IMHO. Sweet basses.

Just bought mine. Love it. Natural body is beautiful. I tried this one out and another Standard Jazz bass and this one sounded way better and felt better as well. I'm very happy with my choice.

BTW - I'd love to join the club.

Allright, since no one else has volunteered to take over the club numbering after Pica left (sold his FSR), I'll do it if that's allright with you guys. I hope you'll agree that this club has the right to live :)

If you don't know what a FSR is, it's a Fender (or Factory) Special Run. Limited in time and/or numbers, usually standard models in special colours/finishes. There are basically two categories of Fender FSRs; they're either made for specific dealers (like GC or Thomann), or marketed by Fender themselves for a very brief period. Some are made in a few hundred copies or less, some in thousands. But they're all limited editions, and all I've seen have been really really REALLY nice basses. That's why I think this club deserves to continue, I'm really interested in seeing new FSRs that might pop up :)

BTW, there are actually some really cool FSRs on the market right now - check out these ones for sale in Europe:
